Dr. David Puett was raised in Tennessee and graduated from Dartmouth College before earning his medical degree from Vanderbilt University. After completing an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, he finished a fellowship in rheumatology back at Vanderbilt under the guidance of Dr. Pincus - whom many credit with shedding light on the true toll autoimmune disease takes on patients and on society as a whole - and Dr. Sergent - the president of the American College of Rheumatology at the time, and his mentor in clinical care.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory joint disease which affects 1% of the population. That means there are at least 3 million people in the United States who have rheumatoid arthritis. The exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown but we do know that genetic and environmental factors play a role.
Carolina Arthritis Associates (CAA) is Southeastern North Carolina's Comprehensive Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporosis and other Metabolic Disease of the bone. I was referred to this practice by my Internist because of swelling and pain in my hands. I was assigned to Dr Daniel DeLo who kept telling me he didn't know what was wrong. He even walked out of the appt one time telling me that this was too much for him to absorb after discussing my family history. I have asked 2 times to be moved to another Dr in the group and have been told no.
I have paid over $500 of my portion in insurance and keep being told he doesn't know what this is. My Internist, Neurology and NeuroSurgery (I have a nerve issue) keep saying the inflammation must be handled by a Rheumatologist. The fact that a drs ego trumps patient care is sad. I now have to drive to Duke to be seen because other Rheumatologists in the area aren't booking until 2023.
Each time my Internist gives me prednisone, the issue resolves then it comes back. I've heard other drs at this practice are good. Run from Dr DeLo and know that you are not allowed to change drs.

Dr. DeLo is an awesome doctor. He treats me with kindness and care. He makes sure to explain or clarify anything I am unclear about. From the moment I walk in, the kindness begins at the receptionist's desk. Genuine kindness. His nurse Meredith is a doll. The Infusion Department is top-notch as well, they check and double-check to make sure I am given the right infusion. Also, I can honestly say even though those injections in my knees hurt like heck, Dr. DeLo is great even in giving those. If you are looking for an Arthritis Doctor. Go to Carolina Arthritis. Specialist in their field. Sincerely Bernadette Y. Shaw

I have been going to Carolina Arthritis since 1997,I was diagnosed with Ra. my primary care doctor.referred me to Doctor David Pruitt.he has been very helpful with getting me on the right medication to keep my Ra under control. Him and all of the staff has always been real nice to me and helped me anyway they can. I would recommend any of the doctors there to anyone that has a auto immune problem to visit them.

In my experience the Carolina Arthritis staff has always treated me with kindness and respect. On each visit the staff is very professional. I am greeted with a warm hello by staff who may not even be on my health care team. If I have a concern and need to reach out to my health care team my concern is usually addressed within a few hours. I've been a patient at Carolina Arthritis now for over 15 years.
