East Bay Pediatrics: Rhea William E Our practice has roots going back to Dr. Hubert Long, the first pediatrician to open a pediatric office in Berkeley. From the 1940's to the 1970's, he was active in leadership roles at both Children's Hospital Oakland and Alta Bates Hospital, and was revered by colleagues and patients. In 1958, Dr. Long brought in Dr. Thomas Cock, who had completed his pediatric training at Children's Hospital. After six years, Dr. Cock opened up an office of his own, and invited Dr. William Rhea, then a graduating chief resident at Children's Hospital, to join him.
Services
East Bay Pediatrics as it is today began in 1977 by founding physician William Rhea, MD, FAAP. The practice has always run with the goal of providing the best pediatric care in a safe environment for our patients. We believe that good communication is key between pediatrician, patient, and parent. As your physicians, we have a professional obligation to treat our patients to the best of our medical knowledge.

I was born on the East Coast and attended college in Boston, MA. I married my wife, Judith, prior to starting medical school at UCSF. After graduation, I entered a training program in pediatrics at H.C. Moffitt Hospital and completed that training as chief resident at SF General Hospital. I had decided to become a primary care pediatrician because of an interest in preventative medicine, the opportunity to develop long term relationships and the satisfaction of teaching families how to grow well.I started a partnerships with another pediatrician and shortly thereafter, we merged to form the current East Bay Pediatric Medical Group.

We've been taking both our daughter (now 5) and son (now 15 months) to East Bay Pediatrics their whole lives and can highly recommend it. Their entire staff is polite, helpful and knowledgeable. They have a sister office in Berkeley that is also available should you need it. Berkeley also serves as the weekend drop in location for Saturday needs. Additionally, their after hours call in service is great.

You may call nights and weekends and speak to the on call physician about emergency issues or just to calm a panicked new parent. They never complain that you've called. Thumbs up!
