Groat has been serving the greater Greensboro community since 1975. His two sons, Dr. Christopher L. Groat & Dr. R. Scott Groat, are now with the practice, along with Dr. Sandy Thimmappa Cohen.Robert L. Groat, MD is a graduate of Greensboro Senior High School (now Grimsley) ('62), Davidson College and Harvard Medical School. He performed an internal medicine internship at Duke University Medical Center and his ophthalmology residency at Washington University Medical School (Barnes Hospital) in St. Louis, Missouri.

My first appointment they forget to give me valuable blood work paperwork so I have to drive all the way back down to Greensboro and back to get it. They prescribe me medicine that isn't covered by my insurance, expecting the pharmacy to call them to tell them (yeah right). I'm told by the pharmacist in person -- barely caught the on call doctor to fix the prescription as Groat closes early on Fridays.
They schedule me with a specialist that isn't covered by my insurance (which had over a week of time to call and report this) only to find out in person on the day of my appointment and waste a drive to Greensboro again. It's been over a 2 weeks and blood work still isn't done. No new doctors yet. No new phone calls. Glad I have the drops for now.

Was not pleased. First time coming here and firstly, I felt the waiting room was too crowded during a pandemic. No 6 feet guidelines. The place is also outdated. The doctor that I saw was nice and friendly. When my glasses were ready for pickup they did not call me like they said they would be when they were ready. If I did not call them to check on them, I would still be waiting. They never answer their phone as well. I was not pleased with them - won't be returning.

Would recommend Groat eye care. Associates. I had to two producers a week apart I had no problems afterwards. Thank you so much. They are very caring and really do care about your eye Health. Christopher Groat and his assistant the check out lady she is to sweet to help me get appointments that work for me since I would in the health field.

I have been a patience @ Groate Eyecare, for many years. Today, I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Chris Groate & his assistant, Chelsea, for the first time, as their new patient. Wow, what a difference and great experience! They both took time & in no way, made me feel that I was being rushed, through & afraid to ask questions. Both were very kind, sincere, & helpful! I am so glad to have them, as my Eye Care Specialists. Thank you, Dr. Chris & Chelsea!

I had 2 strokes and was referred here by my neurologist bc she wanted me to see a eye specialist not just a optometrist. Unfortunately everything I was diagnosed with this doctor said I didn't have. I don't see how 3 different doctors and specialist including a surgeon could all agree and say I had this problem wrong with my eyes but this doctor. say I don't.
Also my vision has changed and I was seen twice but never offered to get glasses. I'm very disappointed with the care and can't say I would recommend this office to anyone. Although the techs were very sweet.

I love doctor Yoakum, he was able to help me find my correct prescription, and he did it in a way that wasn't boring like most doctors. However, a couple months later when i went to get my glasses adjusted that's when I decided that it's not the best office. The guy beside me was picking out some new frames; The employee was helping him and they were having a conversation.
She goes on to say that my generation is always on our phones and isn't able to have real conversations anymore. I, a teen who she was trash talking, was sitting there (not on my phone) listening to this conversation. She goes on to say that we will not succeed in the real world, and that their generation is much better than ours. I love doctor Yoakum, he is great, however i will never go back to that office if i continue to feel ridiculed every time i need my glasses fixed.

I had to have a surgical procedure done and Scott took very good care of me and made sure that I did not feel any pain! Needless to say I went back for my annual eye exam and also purchased a pair of glasses there at a more than reasonable price. The staff are all wonderful as well and very friendly and helpful!

I been a patient here since childhood. I continued going here as an adult &&they accept almost any insurance. I love it here. The staff always been so friendly and nice. Dr. Yoakum is my eyecare doctor here &&he does a marvelous job! The optical do a great job with helping me try on glasses. It's a good selection. I would refer anyone here!
