Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in the United States. Every person suffering from diabetes should have an annual eye examination which includes dilation and careful evaluation of their retina for disorders that can occur due to diabetic blood vessel damage. In some instances, it may be necessary for diabetic patients to have laser treatments on their retina, which when applied in a timely fashion can be vision saving. Our doctors are experts at performing diabetic retinopathy examinations.

I could write a book on this place! We have been here three different times for different reasons and EVERYTIME The staff is unfriendly, frequently annoyed, the waiting area is a covid spreading tin can stuffed to the brim with people, there is no room for weight height and check in. They "say" its friendly to kids.it isnt. There is zero space for strollers anywhere in the office.
The rooms are 100% for adults, the equipment is always "having problems" the staff seems to despise kids not sure if Dr. V knows this!? She is constantly late or on maternity leave? We like her as a person and doctor however the wait times, unfriendly atmosphere and lack of comfort in her office is not enough to keep us coming. We will be seeking a new pediatric ophthalmologist after this visit.

If your reading this review save yourself a headache and make an appointment somewhere else. Arrived for my daughters 2:30 PM appointment to find standing room only ( no big deal). After checking in and speaking with the other patients I then learned the office was running 1.5hrs to 2hrs behind. Apparently this isn't uncommon as some of the people I spoke with stated they were returning patients who have experienced similar wait time as of recent.

I had a great experience at this eye doctor location from the receptionist the physician and technician that helped me and fit my glasses! She asked me what I wanted in a frame and We discussed my insurance coverage so I knew before I picked out my frames and lenses what would be covered! I am highly satisfied and would recommend them!

Franciscan office in Munster (the new one) is a disaster! I had an appointment with my son during school hours as they were not able to schedule anything after school even though I asked because I don't like to take my son out of school. I took a day off at work because of this appointment (follow up!) and when we got to the office it turned out my son is not scheduled in their system so they told us to go home basically. Waste of time! Really disappointed. Franciscan network is horrible in general but this is too much.

I had a bad experience immediately after cataract surgery because Dr Lewitsky ordered "standard order protocol" for me as a diabetic. I declined their sweets after the surgery & got the okay from Dr L to go to a nearby restaurant for a salad (Had no dressing or croutons) My blood sugar shot up to the high 300s 2 hours after the salad. Hospital nurse called to check on me next day & I told her I couldn't figure out why my blood sugar went so high.
Nurse told me I was given glucocorticosteroids in my IV by the anesthesiologist. I was upset. Patient advocate at Fransciscan surgery center investigated I wrote in a letter to me it was on the LTF Eye Drs orders for "standard order protocol" What is the point in them knowing you are diabetic for them to harm you this way? Also when I was at the surgery center to sign the papers to have the surgery there was nothing about the astigmatism correction I had to pay upfront separately at LTF.
I waited for Dr Lewetsky who told me it is no where in my record or the surgery center would charge me more so there are some initials in the top corner of a page in my chart. No way of knowing if I got the correction as LTF does this off the books.

The eye exam I received here was very thorough and I have no complaints about the doctors. My complaint is that I've decided to stop going here because they have the rudest receptionist on the planet. She acts like every question you ask is stupid, and answers you in the most bored voice possible. She belongs at the DMV with her attitude.
