I want to thank Life flight, ER, ICU and most of the 6th floor at Grant Hospital for saving my life and the awesome care I received for over a month that I was there. There were a couple not so nice and caring nurses but as a whole great staff. I don't remember a lot from ICU but what I do remember, I want to give a shout out to Nurse Bruce in ICU.
When I was delirious, I remember him being calm and caring and must say I felt safe because I was having all kinds of dilutions from the sepsis shock and couldn't tell where I was most of the time and what was real and what wasn't however I remember him and I felt safe. Heck! I barely remember my husband being there., but he was lol Thank you again Nurse Bruce!

I was recently taken to Grant by squad for what turned out to be dehydration. My experence in the emergency department was very good. I was later moved to the 8th floor for a stay for further test. The day nurse and PSA were very attentive. Later that evening after shift change things seem to change. I remember seeing my overnight nurse at 10pm and did not see her again until 7:40 am. Yes, 7:40am!
Because I was a fall risk I requested help twice during the early morning hours only to have no one show up. The gentleman answering the request each time said he would notify the assigned nurse. At approx. 2:10 am, with the use of a walker I unplugged my monitor a took my self to the bathroom. When I managed to get back to my bed I decided not to hook my monitor back up.
Later that morning I pressed the call button to again to request help going to the bathroom. No one responded after being told the nurse would be notified, so once again I got there on my own. Monitor still not hooked up. At approx. 7:40am a technician came into my room with batteries for the monitor. Not sure If this was scheduled or if someone finally noticed no monitor signal from my device.
At that time my overnight nurse appeared just after the techician walked in. Long story short, I did not see, got two no responses when paged and was not checked on by my overnight nurse or PSA. Not sure, but I do think the techician came in for a draw sometime prior to 7:40am. I never want to go back to Grant. This reflects negatively on the many good people working there. The people in the ER and the techicians performing test were very friendly and attentive.

I was hospitalized four days with COVID, in an isolation room on the sixth floor. The air conditioning did not work in this room. This was seemingly known to all staff, who would frequently comment that I was in the hottest room. The first couple days weren't too hot. The day before Memorial Day, the heat was really picking up. They told me they didn't have any fans.
My dad brought me a fan. By Monday, Memorial Day, it was over 90 degrees in the room. The thermostat maxed out at 90 around 8 AM but the high that day was in the 90s outside. I estimate my room was around 100 degrees. They wouldn't open the door due to it being a COVID room. They offered no solutions. No fan, no help. They told me they had put in a work order.
I asked them to move the guest cot into the bathroom, which was a few degrees cooler (less direct sunlight) and I had to stay in there. I was appalled, hot and frustrated. My parents work for OhioHealth, at a different hospital, and were shocked that this went on as it did and the hospital did nothing (was never offered to switch rooms, never offered a fan). We did call the patient experience line and will be filing a written complaint with the health department.

I was impressed with staff and the kind and professional way they treat each other. The rooms on the 6th floor should be condemned. They squeeze two patients into one room. These rooms are so small and dreary. Transport must rearrange all the equipment in the room to move beds in and out. It's just so sad to leave your husband in a room like that. It's really substandard.

I originally gave the hospital one star but after thinking about it I realized if you put yourself in shoes at the hospital they have a pretty hard task in front of them. I need to remember that the hospital is not that large it's located in the inner city and it's got an overloaded emergency room. And I looked at the complaints most of the others have written in the last couple years and it seems to be a matter of expectations.
This is not the hospital that you would see in suburbia it's an inner city hospital with a lot of additional issues other than being small and a pretty tough job in the emergency room. Overall I think it's better if you have time to go to one of the suburban hospitals but if you don't it's probably a pretty good choice I'm sure their trauma surgeon very good.
But don't go there expecting Cadillac service and all that because they just can't do it they don't have the space for the staff or the situation that's going to make that happen for you. So I upgraded my review to three stars because under the circumstances that are pretty good for them. I do think they could improve the whole process by allowing visitors to go for one entrance and emergency room and other kind of separate the two and still not lose security if they have the metal detectors and security of two locations.
And if that's already the case I think they need have to have a sign up that says patient visitors enter the front entrance and out of their entrance for the emergency room. We really need to find a way to get all these people without healthcare to be able to go somewhere other than their emergency room at Grant and that's what's happening and I bet. It's a conundrum in the country that's for sure! My kudos for the staff that have to deal with this god-awful situation down there it's got to be hard.

My son was admitted by squad facing death. He was extremely sick from Liver disease, pneumonia both lungs a blood infection and internal bleeding. He was unconscious for 2 weeks on a ventalator. His name is Jason. TODAY we were released after 29 days and sent to a specialty hospital for his care now. I can not Express enough the kindness and care that the nurses and Dr. Showed to my son. You saved his life and as his mother I thank you with all my heart.

There's a lot to share about my partner's an my experience at Grant that is bad, but I'll start by stating that they can't even keep their info up-to-date about parking. Day 1, I parked in the Blue Garage, because it was near the surgery center we were admitted to. It was fine, no problems. Day 2, I tried to park in the Green garage and.wrong. THIS IS A STAFF ONLY GARAGE.
At least that is what I found it to be when I tried to enter at 6:45 am. Infuriating experience yesterday trying to park in this garage. I pulled in and up to the entrance gate only to find no ticketing machine. So I was stuck in front of a gate that wouldn't raise. It was only when I got out of my car and walked back to a little scanner that I saw a tiny sign that said "staff only".
No where on the large wayfinding garage signage does it say this, not on the gate, nor is it specified on Grant's website, which I referenced prior to my trip to understand parking availability. I had a single person behind me (thankfully it wasn't more), that I had to ask to backup because I couldn't access the garage and she yelled at me "Just use your I.D!" I said, "I'm not STAFF!
I'm a GUEST!". She reluctantly backed up so I could get out. When you're stressed, and worried about a sick loved one, this kind of thing is literally the last straw, especially when it is so easy to place large informational signage. Being yelled at by a random employee is unacceptable.

If I coule give zero stars I would. How does a hospital have no parking? Literally zero places to park. I had an appointment here today and got here well enough in advance and could not find any parking, wasted 20 minutes going into a garage that was packed and no way to know it was full. Another 20 minutes circling for other means of parking and nothing.
The main entrance had a line or cars and no way to know if there was a valet attendant or not which I dont like to use anyway. I ended up wasting nearly 3 hours of drive time and looking for parking and missed my appointment which I arrived in plenty of time if there was parking available. Then I come to find out I could have done my appointment virtually.
That should have been offered from the beginning. Absolute waste of my time and horrendous planning of Dr offices without informing patients of these issues and offering other options.

A friend was transported to Grant Medical Center 4 days ago with COVID, pneumonia, and a variety of other critical conditions. A doctor called me from the ER to verify her care and end-of-life wishes. Since then, I've had three helpful and informative updates from her doctors and nurses. She is now stable, but very sick. I admire the transparent communication from the staff at Grant. I feel they care about my friend's individual issues and needs. Feeling this level of trust means a lot to me. Thank you!
