My niece was admitted to this hospital in pediatrics and although it was a scary experience for my niece her nurses and doctors were great. They go above and beyond for their patients and you can tell they love what they do. Even the cleaning staff and cafeteria staff were great. Thank you nurses andrea and norma for your care and the rest of the pediatrics hospital staff

I was visiting my sister regarding her condition. Earlier that day she related to me that a 3rd floor nurse chastised her for using her cell phone. She was told to stop talking. My sister further related to me that the day before, she was onset by an emergency-type of incontinence problem whereby she needed to go to the bathroom immediately. She was fresh out of invasive knee, leg, & foot surgery, therefore she repeated pressed the nurse call button to summon a nurse yet nobody bothered to come.
Whenever the nurse on duty did answer the summons over 45 minutes later, she was upset that my sister took it upon herself to amble to the bathroom in pain because she had soiled herself. A former nurse's mother was placed in the same room. They assumed an air calibrated to degree of an enormous sense of entitlement. They expected favoritism from nurses there.
The nurses, because many knew them, accommodated all their whims. They didn't want my sister having visitors, not to talk, not to make noise, not to watch TV. When I arrived to visit my sister, the visitor for the other patient confronted me in an aggressive, hostile manner telling me that I should not be there. Excuse Me? What? I refused to converse with her or entertain her absurd request.
She went to DEMAND that I be expelled from the visit on the grounds that "she used to work there and was owed favoritism" a male nurse sided with her by telling me a blatant lie to my face while avoiding eye contact. I called him out by telling him he was lying. His only defense was to call security for calling him what he really was a "LIAR". He knows that I caught him in a lie.
No integrity whatsoever. Anyway, the attention is awful there exist several shortcomings. Although stress levels are high, each and every person knew this was part of there job. They religiously cash their checks.

My grandmother was admitted to the hospital because of a fractured femur. The nurses were rude and I was constantly having to step out of the room to look for nurses in what seemed like an abandoned hospital. Our nurse, Chris, las completely unwilling to accommodate our simple request to help my grandmother going to the restroom in a way that would cause her the least amount of pain.
My grandmother spent nearly 4 days with a broken femur before the doctors finally decided to perform her operation. Chris, our nurse, always replied "I don't know" to all of our questions like "when will she able to drink water? When can she eat? When will they move her like they said they would 2 hours ago? What medications have they given her?" Every time I would call for him he would say he was coming in just a second, and that he needed to finish some reports. However, when I glanced at what he was doing, he was playing pokemon go pretending to work.
He always replied to everything with a smirk as if he thought it was funny. The other nurse Felicia would always yell at my grandmother when she would talk to her, yelling orders at her. Overall we feel like the nurses make it seem like they're doing us a favor to do their job and don't seem to know what they're doing. I would recommend you take your loved ones elsewhere

My 17 year old daughter had a tonsillectomy Tuesday at Valley Baptist Brownsville, and I am so happy with the amazing customer service. My daughter suffers from anxiety, and everyone made her feel so at ease. I want to thank Orlando, Robert, Jeanette, Vanessa, JJ, Carlos, and Javier. You all were so kind and informative. I love that they introduced themselves every single time, and we could tell that they were smiling even though everyone was wearing a mask. Vanessa was the first and last face we saw and she was very sweet and funny. Carlos was with my daughter during recovery and helped her calm down as she had an anxiety attack as she was coming out of the anesthesia. Dr. Theivagt is amazing as always.
My children and I are forever thankful with how attentive and professional he is. Now the one that really touched our hearts and made my daughter feel safe and at ease, was Dr. Simpson. As he was questioning us on my daughter's medical history, he made it feel so organic. It felt like we were having a conversation with a friend. Loved that he was cracking jokes and making us feel calm.
My daughter told me that all the way to the OR and before she knocked out, he was right there by her side making her laugh. Thank you everyone for such a wonderful and easy experience.

My mom had surgery on her shoulder in April and the staff really took care of my mom. She had a follow up surgery with Dr. Quesada and we had the best experience. From outpatient registration to Day Surgery and even in the OR, not only did they remember her but they made her feel so at ease. Paul Luna, a Chaplain, came to say a prayer with her and really calmed her nerves. Delia Sanchez, from Day Surgery, was so sweet, making sure she had a warm blanket, water and Jello after her recovery. We hope she doesn't have to go back but if she does we know that we will be in great hands with the staff at VBMC Brownsville.

My son was recently admitted to VBMC and I have to share that we had a great team in the pediatric floor. Sonia and Andrea were our awesome nurses that made sure my little one was taken care of. They are genuine nurses that care for the well being of their patients. Thank you for your attention and our overall great experience!

This was several months ago, but this review pertains to the LD section. My sister delivered and unfortunately had to be on magnesium due to her high blood pressures. She was to be on it for 24 hours and since she couldn't eat or drink anything due to her C-section, they also made her not eat nor drink anything the ADDITIONAL 24 hours she was on this medication.
She was starving and they did not allow her to eat until after the 24 hours were up. I clarified that with a few colleagues of mine and they were appalled as to why they didn't allow her to eat. I understand after surgery due to anesthesia but time after? NOTHING. Not only that as being on the magnesium they (nurses) should be monitoring her urine output as it is very important while on this medication.
They also should be listening to her lungs frequently and my sister stated to me they only entered her room once at shift change and didn't see them again till the morning. They didn't check her bleeding, didn't help her change and they didn't even get her up! And to top it off my sister was very emotional (rainbow baby). Upon calling the nurse to let them know that her machine was going off, after quite sometime the nurse finally came into her room and yelled at her! Blamed my sister that the machine was beeping because of her!
She made my sister cry! Please do not have your loved ones deliver here! Unless they don't have blood pressure issues or if you don't care if they aren't monitor properly for their life! Or no compassion. I hate saying all this but if my sister Had shared this with me at the time I would've definitely intervened.

If anyone is looking for a hospital. I 100% recommend VBMC. I am extremely pleased with the care I received. I went in through the E.R. where I was later admitted to the 3rd floor and then I was suddenly moved to pediatrics. I was a little skeptical about being on the kiddie floor. But after meeting the nurses who cared for me. I am humbled to have met these special humans.
I want to thank my Night Shift nurse Sonia P. She was kind and had the best bed side manners and was very attentive. She made my stay feel like home. She was always on top of my needs and I am just forever grateful. I also want to recognize Emerson. He was the male nurse who cared for me the following night and was also very pleased with the care he provided. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Keep being the BEST. #thebestnursesever #vbmc

Take your loved one somewhere else. Female nurses are the rudest, they like to call you sweetie. We're not twelve year olds. Speak up for yourself, dont be afraid to correct them. Your a patient not a damm Co-worker they can talk down too. Dont be afraid to ask the doctors questions. The excuse is "we're short staffed" but don't let them treat you any less for that.
Short staffed or not your insurance will get billed so set the expectation to receive the good healthcare service. I personally wouldn't recommend. If anyones offended, oh well when it's someone's health I rather y'all know the truth. Believe me half of you that read this, will be sent home without any answers.

I am so grateful for the excellent care and service I received at the Valley Baptist Emergency Center on Ruben Torres. The entire team including the registration person, the nurse, the technician and the physician were all so professional and compassionate. They made sure that I was comfortable and answered all of my questions. The entire visit was less than 90 minutes, too! Very happy with my experience!

I got there crying when I filled out my forms the lady was giving me attitude because she couldn't understand what I wrote. i was in pain for crying out loud. Horrible service, I was in pain and agony. Crying and I had to yell when telling my problems because of how much pain I was in. I've had emergency surgeries in the past I even told the lady.
I was sitting in the waiting room for about 20 minutes. My gf asks the receptionist how long it would take to see me. She was unsure, my gf told her well I need fast service it's serious I might have to take him to the one on Alton glor. She was then very rude to my gf saying that it's fine, i could to to another hospital in a very rude way. I tried calling multiple times only to be hung up in by Kimberly in the back of the emergency room no one wanted to transfer me to the lady I spoke to there at the hospital covering for her.
I talked to Robert a supervisor and he was no help at all. Asking irrelevant questions. I felt like I was refused service. There's a reason you have 2.7 stars horrible employees that don't care about their patients.

Horrible horrible care from nurse Sandy in third floor, heartless human being. My brother was dying and she never aid him. He threw up and was never cleaned. She was called advising my brother needed pain medication and she couldn't attend to him due to her doing a freaking report since it was almost time for her shift to end. Unfortunately he passed away in a lot of pain.
She was well aware my brother had passed away but failed to notify anyone and ended her shift. I had to approach the nurse that replaced her after 30+ minutes of my brother being deceased for the funeral home to go for him. It was at that time after 30+ minutes that nurse checked his pulse to verify he was deceased.

My mom had a great experience in outpatient surgery. Everyone from registration to nursing and ancillary staff was so polite and efficient at their jobs. Nurses took their time explaining the procedure to my mom and made sure to answer any questions she had. We were in and out fairly quickly. I definitely recommend VBMC for medical services!
