You probably associate June with weddings and graduation parties, not fireworks and cataracts! The American Academy of Ophthalmology, also known as the AOA, has named June Fireworks Eye Safety and Cataract Awareness Month. It's an observance that highlights both ends of the life circle of eye health, from kids to older adults.

I'm hesitant to even give two stars as the experience was so unprofessional. The doctor completed his process from start to finish without gloves, touching my face and eyes. The process before and after seeing the doctor was highly disorganized. Before leaving I questioned why I wasn't given a printed prescription. The receptionist said it wasn't needed, ensuring "I will be fine." I drove to my local pharmacy to hear they haven't received a prescription request from the EyeHealth.
I walked around the pharmacy for twenty minutes. After the pharmacist received nothing they recommend calling EyeHealth. After wasting my time on hold I decided to drive back. When I explained why I came back the receptionist at EyeHealth asked me "Is having to drive back really a big deal?" She followed that up with a quick lie "requesting a prescription takes time".
I then requested a printed perspiration for the second time. She said "they don't do that." After expressing my frustrations she printed the prescription. The pharmacist still had no request when I returned for the second time. We were grateful that it was printed because nothing came through. Some of the staff at this location are unapologetically comfortable with wasting time. I will not be returning here again.

The Doctor was FANTASTIC! 5 stars. The nurse practitioner had terrible bed side manner / really cold, robotic and insulting. Didn't know what Estrogen was? Repeated everything that I wrote down on the paper - why bother writing it down. I actually almost walked out of the office she was so bad but luckily I stayed because the doctor was the exact opposite- very personable, knowledgeable and kind

First person at the door was very gruff and unfriendly. I was asked to replace the mask I was wearing for a tighter fitting one. The person rudely told me not to remove my mask, but go into the bathroom and replace it. I was then asked to go to checkin for my appointment. I actually had a contact appointment and an eye exam. I arrived about 10:05, 5 minutes late.
The person checking me in said my contact appointment was at 10:00, so she went back to check if they could still see me. She came back and said I would have to reschedule. She then asked if I still wanted my eye exam. I really wanted to do both on the same day, so she proceeded to cancel that appointment. She then took me back to the contact department to reschedule that appointment.
When I got back there we started picking a different date when I just happened to say "I can't believe I was only 5 minutes late and my appointment has to be rescheduled." The person at the contact desk said you have to have your contacts in for 2 hours prior to the appointment or we can't see you. I said that I am wearing my contacts and I put them it at 8:00, 2 hours prior.
She said the person at checkin said I wasn't wearing my contacts. What? She never even asked me and how can she tell if someone is wearing contacts? Needless to say, the contact people were very helpful and said they could see me right away. They also said they would put me back on the schedule that day for my eye exam. That was more stressful then it needed to be.
I would suggest you have "friendliness" training for the greeter person and communication training for the checkin person. Contact personnel and eye doctor were great. I give them 5 stars.

Doctor's office side was just fine (not the best, but certainly adequate). If you are interested in purchasing glasses, I'd go elsewhere. The options are limited, overpriced, and the staff are rude (at least the tall, middle-aged, white male was). To be fair, the female employees were completely polite and normal (the dark-haired woman at the front desk and the younger woman with bangs).
To the jerk on staff: Seriously consider getting over yourself - just because you're located in NW, doesn't mean your blatant snobbery and horrific attitude is warranted. Great job losing business!

I have been seeing MD Prashanth Vallabhanath - Dr. PV for a very long time. I turned 70 this year. I appreciate that Dr PV continues to stay and give us his excellent services. I hope to see him for the next 15 to 20 years (or more) to continue my eye health care. I no longer live in Portland but still come to see Dr PV and his excellent team. I live in Alaska. Dr PV and his team are excellent at what they do.
All are professional, knowledgeable, efficient, courteous, friendly, and informative. I keep a running list of questions and information on my eye health inbetween appointments. Dr PV and his team answer all my questions and always explain things concerning the eye exam. I understand my past, present and future eye health. I have complete faith in the competence with the eye care I receive from Dr PV and the efficiency during the eye exam from his team also.
They are all very good at what they do. Keep up the great work. I know I am taking care of my eyes inbetween the eye appointments. My "snow sunglasses" questions. Taking care of my eyes. Thanks for educating me about my eyes and the all around care for my eyes. I appreciate your care and help in keeping my eyes healthy. See you at my next appointment. Thanks Sherry Choat

Multiple bad experiences with this clinic. Some of the reception staff are rude, I've had multiple visits get canceled, one of which I'd waited three months for and wasn't informed of even though I need yearly eye checks for a medication I'm taking (they booked a surgery over my appointment). Very long wait times and they also completely gave me the wrong glasses prescription because the tech did my exam after giving me eye drops. Just horrible overall.

Very disappointed with their ability to listen to what I wanted. Their whole focus (haha) is to check my distance vision. I have contacts and they are fine for driving. My focus was to get a prescription for single vision glasses so that I could read books on my iPad mini. No. I don't want to wear contacts for distance and then wear readers over those. so that I can read.
I want to be able to read in bed. get tired. and go to sleep. without getting up to take out contacts. I want to sit in my recliner, surf the web, read books. with a pair of glasses for that specific distance. It seems such a simple request. I love reading and it is difficult now that I'm old. I just want a pair of glasses for that specific purpose.
It shouldn't be this difficult. No better than Costco and worse in that the ophthalmologist didn't know anything about contacts. For that, you have to be seen in their optical shop. Really?

I love this place! Dr. Balish, my eye doctor and surgeon works here so what's not to love! He is one of the most professional, attentive care providers I have ever had. Dr. Balish is so intelligent, informed and kind. He truly listens and obviously cares that I have the highest quality of life possible. I felt like all my concerns were addressed and that despite my disability I was just as valuable as any other person in his practice. I highly recommend Dr. Balish and his team for all your eye care concerns.

I recently switched to Oregon Eye Specialists at their St. Vincent's location. Their office is both welcoming and efficient. One of the procedures I needed was a Goldman Field Vision Test. These usually cause me much anxiety, however, I was made to feel so comfortable by the tech who administered it, George Pacheco. His demeanor was calm and professional, telling me what to expect and how long it would take.
He took extra care in finding an eye patch that fit me and would work for the test. I am so grateful for the excellent care I received there by George and also my ophthalmologist, Kelly Chung, MD.

Dr. Balish is very genuine and such an expert in his field. He performed LASIK on both my eyes and put me at ease at every step of procedure. We are so lucky to have the latest cutting edge LASIK laser and Dr. Balish in Portland! I would recommend Dr. Balish and his staff to help you with any eye problems.

Dr. Daniel Brown at the Barnes Road location was very compassionate and he was clear about my situation and offered treatment options. I left my worries behind since it was a vision condition, I was rest assured. Staff was friendly and saw me right away even though I gave them a short notice. So glad I switched from my previous Ophthalmologist. There must have been a change in management or something since 2015 because looking at the negative reviews below, I am finding it incredible that their operation runs so poorly.

My entire family and I have gone to Dr. Martin Balish for well over a decade and we are in very good hands. We each have different eye issues, ranging from high eye pressure to cataracts to dry eyes and a handful of others. His approach is comprehensive and prudent. He takes the entire individual into account when suggesting a course of action. We are never rushed through our appointments.
He keeps up with the latest medical developments and techniques in his field, and is supportive regarding effective alternative treatments (not a common combination). His entire clinic is well staffed. We particularly appreciate George who does a lot of the vision testing - he's thorough, knowledgeable, calming, and kind. Oregon Eye is a great clinic.

I just tried to make an appointment. Not an easy task. After getting connected with their recording it states that I need to have my insurance card available. Well the only problem with that is that it's 41 steps down stairs and then 41 steps upstairs. I have 2 bad knees and as I was already invested having spent a fair amount of time on hold, and that my general doctor had referred me to them as they are in my insurance provider group I thought it would not be a big deal to make the appointment now and then call back with the insurance information.
After 15 minutes on hold I finally get connected to someone who is in charge of making appointments. She asked for my insurance info and I tell her about the issue at this moment in getting the card, but I have insurance and they are in my network and that I've been on hold for 15 minutes already and can I just make the appointment and then will call back with the info? No. Won't do it.
If this is an example of their level of care and customer service I think that they are an organization that should be avoided and from the other reviews it seems that this is a consistent issue with them.

This review is based on my initial attempt to get a new-patient appointment today. After about 2 minutes of waiting on hold, the person answering the phone asked if it was a routine visit and when I tried to explain that it wasn't, she cut me off and insisted she needed my insurance group code before another word could be spoken. I told her I was getting my card and without any warning was put on hold again. I wish I'd read the reviews first, customer service seems to be a huge problem. No thanks, folks.

I will never go here again. I went in for a new prescription for my glasses and then went in a couple weeks later for a new prescription for my contacts. The contact lens doctor could not figure out my perscription and kept saying that my eyes were a "mystery" because my recent glasses prescription didn't match what he was seeing then. He did not dig any deeper.
He ordered various prescription trial contact lenses. A week later I noticed my vision was terrible. I went back to Oregon Eye Specialists and got a new doctor who said I had keratitis and did no patient education with me. She gave me a sample of eye drops and said that should last me 10 days (which did not). The contact lense eye doctor should have questioned why my vision was so off.
I ended up going back a few more times to track my keratitis. Each time the doctor would give me a new different eye glass prescription and tell me it's OK to get new glasses with that perscription. Luckily I had enough sense not to get new glasses until my vision stablized. Otherwise I would have a bunch of eye glasses with the wrong script. This is the condensed version. There were many many more mistakes on there part.

I have been seen at the above facility once a year for the past 2 years. After my first visit I wasn't completely satisfied as I had to return to have my prescription adjusted. Whatever stuff happens. This last visit in August of 2014, was the last time I'll go back. I went in had a routine exam. Computers in the office were down and to get an appt that fit my schedule I needed to go to the at Vincent office, my chart wasn't at that location.
I left with my prescription changing from +2.0 to +1.0 I couldn't see! Had to have the dr get my chart later days later and write a different prescription. The woman that ordered the contacts which didn't order the correct amount and the old prescription strength and because I had opened them wouldn't take them back. So not only did I have to pay for the wrong contacts I had to pay for new ones.
This same woman in question also answers the phone in the Gresham location should look for a new job or start taking some happy pills because she isn't friendly or pleasant to speak with. I too just like others just received a bill for $35 the date i was seen in the clinic was 8-12-14 the bill is dated 2-13-15 that's 186 days. Or 6 months and 2 days. Makes me think someone in the billing dept needs to look for a new job as well.
How is this acceptable? But guess when the bill is due? Upon receipt. Whatever guess $35 isn't worth going to collections over. I called billing dept, customer service was as expected. Never ever again will I step foot into this place of business and I suggest you don't either. My post on Facebook is next :

I went to Oregon Eye Specialists at this location for roughly 4 years before deciding to never go back. First of all, the reason they got 2 stars instead of just 1 was simply for the fact that Su (who works in the glasses department) is absolutely fabulous and I really enjoyed talking with her. She always remembered myself and the rest of my family, and was really nice.
Now the reason they should be at 1 star. I went in and had a routine eye exam with the doctor that I had seen for the last four years. After the fact, about a month down the road, I received a bill from them. It was for $35, which I found odd, since my insurance covers routine eye exams completely. It said it was for a contact fitting, which I had never been charged for before, and my insurance had never been charged for it (otherwise I would have gotten a bill before saying the charge was $35 and insurance covered $35).
I gave them a call and couldn't reach anyone, because I work during the day and couldn't get away. I kept doing this once or twice a week, until after a couple of months, I received a second bill for the same thing. I kept calling and left messages on various lines. No one ever called me back. EVER. I eventually called while I was at work, and they explained that it was for when your contact prescription changes.
My prescription hasn't changed for 3 years! When I said as much, they just kind of shrugged it off and tried to charge me an additional $15 for being "late". I was transferred several times until I got to the manager who waived the "late" fee and charged me the $35 only (which I still shouldn't have had to pay). She told me I needed to ask the doctor, but he happened to have left the office for another location for good (imagine that). Long story short: Do not go here unless you want to me charged for miscellaneous items that you should not have to pay!

I would give them zero stars. I had vision issues and DR. Cech said it was age spots when I went to OHSU for a second opinion they immediately sent me to the retina specialist. I have macular degeenation (wet kind) and have lost a lot of vission in my left eye.they never figured it out and if I had waited for them to figure it out I would have had no sighnt in my left eye. Stay away if you have probelms. If you just want to get a prescription or contacts I guess they would be fine.

I waited 1 hour. Finally doctor came in. I didn't realize he is a doctor, because he dressed like businessman. He spends only 3 minutes for me and said "I think your eye has an allergy". That's it. Even he didn't test my eyes. For eye test I have to make another appointment, he said. Another appointment means another time, another copay, another bill. What kind business is it?
