Everyone that works here is soooo kind, the building is well kept, the inside is clean and really nice. Update: We have loved having Dr. Hughes as my son's pediatrician for the past 4.5 years, he really is such a great doctor. Sadly, Dr. Hughes is retiring soon but his new endeavors has led us to the care of Dr. Treybig and I absolutely adore her!
She is so caring, helpful, and she really listens to my concerns which was a huge deal to me. She is never judgmental and sincerely cares about my children and I can't thank her enough. I highly recommend!

My kids are too old for a pediatrician anymore, but they went here from birth through puberty, and it was an overall good experience. We had Dr. Mani. She's fine. Can come across a little cold, bedside-wise, but she's a good doctor in terms of diagnosis and treatment, in our experience. This particular 5-star review goes to the staff there. They are really great.
One member of the staff recently helped me out with some medical records and she helped me with no fuss, no muss. I think the staff here are really patient, because they must deal with panicked parents a lot. Or they're just experienced, kind people. Either way, 5 stars. Thank you all for helping my kids grow up strong.

We have taken our boys to this practice since they were newborns (they are now teenagers) and we've always been happy with the care they've received. Dr. Treybig always spends time with us, listens to our concerns and answers any questions we have. Since they have been old enough to answer for themselves, she makes sure they are engaged in the conversation and that she talks to them about their health.
The staff is also great- friendly and helpful. Whenever I leave messages on the nurse triage line for medicine refills or questions that pop up, I always get a quick response. The main office is older and could use a little sprucing up, but it's more important to me to have a reliable doctor than a fresh coat of paint on the walls.

My granddaughter was brought in about two and a half weeks ago for an ear infection, she was given an antibiotic which did not work. Now she was brought in yesterday, 8/26 and had a bad ear infection swelling, according to the doctor the ear looked very bad, "she stated she had never seen a very bad ear as this one". The next day my daughter calls to this facility to get ear drops for the pain for my granddaughter.
She went to her elementary school in pain. The doctor on call Dr. Mani DENIED ear drops. She stated she did not need the ear drops. After another call was made the nurse of Dr. Mani stated Dr. Mani would prescribe something for swelling or inflammation. HELLO.my granddaughter had swelling in the ear, why would she deny it at first. Grandmother called and spoke with Dorothy who transferred me.
She stated it's up to the doctor on call. I told her we have been bringing OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN FOR YEARS to this facility and now the Dr. on-call is denying her ear medicine for the swelling. And Dr. Mani was NOT the doctor who saw my granddaughter it was Dr. Treybig who saw my granddaughter, so how would Dr. Mani know how my granddaughter felt. SO, after years of coming to this facility the doctor's here are not 5 STAR, they are more like 1 STAR.
We do tend to look elsewhere to find another facility who employs empathetic doctors who care about their patients. My kids were seen back when Dr. Cohn was in practice, he was the best doctor we ever came across. My kids were then seen by Dr. Frank and Dr. Hughes and we were happy we found two more good doctors. Now it is time to change.

Would not recommend at all. I took my son here because we are new to Austin and he had a runny nose, cough and all the symptoms of dehydration. The nurse and doctor checked him out and basically said it was nothing but because of the dehydration issues I should "consider" taking him to the ER for fluids. Well I trusted my mom intuition knowing it was not nothing and something was indeed very wrong with my son and took him to the ER immediately after leaving the office.
He had a double ear infection, an eye infection and needed TWO bags of fluids because his dehydration was so bad- ALL missed by this pediatrician a few hours before! The nurse at the ER said if we would have waited one more day things could have been very bad. I would not trust my child in the hands of this pediatrician and would not recommend them at all to anyone.

New owners of this clinic recently and suddenly stopped taking Blue Cross-Blue Shield. So after 19 years of taking my kids here we quickly get kicked to the curb in a way that states they do not care, and during a pandemic. My son is being treated for a condition by one of their doctors, so I asked if I could self-pay. Incredibly, the new ownership could not tell me what that cost would be! (I thought there was a new law about this?) While the doctors and staff were friendly, it's apparent this clinic is starting to go down-hill with new ownership. Would not recommend unless you enjoy being jerked around by the clinic owners that have no empathy for long-term patients.

This group changed owners and just recently quit accepting Blue Cross-Blue Shield. I've been taking my kids to this group for 19 years, but the new owners are kicking us to the curb and denying coverage. It boggles my mind that a new owner can make such significant changes that impact so many families, leaving them in a lurch during a pandemic!
Rather than switching doctors right away for a treatment my son has been receiving, I asked to pay out-of-pocket. This new organization is unable to even let me know what the cost would be for a virtual visit! Our family feels so betrayed by these business shenanigans, especially during these times. Would not recommend.let them swallow their own dirt.

My son has been taken care Dr. Ma for 2 years. Dr. Ma is so passionate, sweet and informative. She has explained in details and give us a lot information about his condition including the public source that we can access. My son adores her and we love her so much. Thank you Dr. Ma. We are lucky to have her taking care of my son's health :.

I wouldn't recommend them. Their rooms are small. The waits are long. Dr Hughes shares the exact same information with us every single visit - including the same twice photocopied fiber charts - maybe because he doesn't remember which patient is which. We asked about a spot during a well check appointment and he changed the billing so that we had to pay a copay.
I wouldn't have asked if I had known. They are legally allowed to nickel and dime their patients, but that doesn't make it any less jerky. Next time I'll just sit there in silence and wait for my fiber chart. Or I'll get another pediatrician. I'm leaning toward the latter.

Dr. Hughes has been my three kids doctor. We met Dr. Hughs 23 years after the birth of our twins. He is a very intelligent doctor. He does not waste time diagnosing. One of my twin had his first asthma attack when we went out of state. Went to an emergency clinic they told me he had bronchitis and I was given an antibiotic. I came back the next day with him still sick.
The morning after I came back we saw Dr. Hughes, he did an x-ray, right away gave him a nebulizer treatment and gave us inhaler etc. My son's difference was night and day! He felt better instantly. I can go on several instances where he pin points the exact diagnosis whereas the other's miss treating the illness correctly. We love him, he is getting older but his intelligence is still intact.
We are always happy to see him when we go for an expected emergency visits since his work days are limited. Otherwise if I can help it I only schedule the kids well check when he is in the office.

We brought our 4 day old baby to see Dr. Frank when we couldn't see our normal pediatrician due to closure for a holiday. I was happy to find an office that was open and able to quickly see us since our son had minor jaundice at the hospital and a speedy check up was important. We had an appt with our normal pediatrician the following day. Our time with Dr. Frank was brief.
He did note slight jaundice by visual exam but said he wasn't concerned. When we voiced concerns with how tired our son was and how he had gone 24 hrs without a dirty diaper Dr. Frank told us to stimulate the bowels with a rectal thermometer and to "not let the baby be the boss and wake him up." I don't disagree that these are things for parents to hear and because he had no concerns I left the appt feeling fine. However, when we visited our normal pediatrician and mentioned the tiredness and lack of dirty diapers she immediately did a skin bilirubin test.
Apparently tiredness and lack of dirty diapers are a sign of jaundice. The test showed elevated values and she then rushed a blood test. I am so thankful that I did not trust Dr. Franks opinion and waste an entire extra week to learn that something was seriously wrong with my newborn. I'm incredibly disappointed at the lack of effort to read my sons chart fully and listen to parents concerns in order to provide the best care possible.
While this office may be able to fit you in quickly - the size of their office, tiny windowless rooms, and a doctor who don't listen makes it feel like you are just a number for them to make money. To ensure the safety of your child, please find another office!

We have been so happy with this practice. We moved to Austin in August and my son came down with a new illness every week after starting school. Capital Pediatrics got us in as new patients on a Sunday morning and have gotten us same day appointments for weeks on end. I'm not crazy about one of the doctors we saw, but the other two have been kind, helpful, and took as much time as needed to listen to our concerns and help our son get better. So glad we found this practice!

The doctors are good, never had issues with Dr. Mani or Dr. Hughes. Both seem very knowledgeable and thorough. However, the wait is unbearably brutal. Been going here for 2 years and NEVER have they been on time. Expect at least 30-45 minute wait from your appt time. They kept me siting in a tiny room with my toddler for 30 minutes. It's quite excruciating with a restless toddler. This has been my experience pretty much every time. I'm finally tired of it and will be looking for a new doctor.

I was a patient of Dr. Talbot's at Capital Pediatric as a child and was excited when my twins were born 13 years ago to take them back to that practice. I chose Dr. Frank as their doctor- I remembered he and Dr. Hughes fondly. Throughout the years, the girls have seen Dr.s Frank and Hughes interchangeably and I love both of them. They do a great job of bringing a touch of "old-school medicine", while still embracing new and innovative ideas.
We also have seen the other doctors and have never had a bad experience. Yesterday, I called at 8 am when they opened because my daughter had a sore throat and fever. After getting my info, Dorothy asked, "How soon can you be here?" I told her we would be there at 9:30. At 9:30 sharp, we were pulled back and the nurse told us he was helping out because Dr. Patterson didn't have a patient currently and they wanted to help Dr. Hughes so we wouldn't have to wait.
By 10 am, we were on our way home with a strep diagnosis and a prescription called in. We have always gotten in same day and have only had to wait on the doctor a handful of times in 13 years and when we have had to wait, there was a clear explanation why. One of my daughters has a monthly prescription and, without fail, it is filled the day I call every time.
When Dr. Frank is not in, one of the other doctors will fill it for us. I can't say enough about this practice. They are amazing and I feel blessed to have my children under their amazing, compassionate care.

I'm pleased with the addition of Dr. Patterson to the practice. I had taken my kids to other doctors at both of their locations and had unpleasant experiences. The front desk staff and most of the nurses are very kind, but the doctors would often talk rudely to my kids. You'd expect pediatricians to understand how to talk to children but quite a few at this practice seem grumpy and over it.
One of the visits (before Dr Patterson) they were very pushy and tried to vaccinate my child for something he already had gotten all his vaccines for- after a long, loud conversation it turned out they had someone else's file! This was almost a year ago, and things are slowly getting better. They almost always will see you same day which is great. I think there are a few kinks that still need to be worked out there which is why not a 5 Star review but they're getting there.

I have been going to this practice for 8 years but for the last couple of visits haven't been good. I will start with what I like. I like that I can get an appointment really easy. Some of the nurses are great. And we just start seen Dr. Patterson who is great with kids and he is taking his time with us making sure all of our questions are answered.
He even offer information for ppd when I took my baby girl to her to her first appointment. Now what I don't like. So, I call today to make an appointment and apparently the phone is not working ( I understand that) but I get a call back and the person just said "what do you want?" to what I answered "excuse me, who are you? She then proceeded to tell me she is calling from CPG.
She kept interrupting me. The lab technician is awful. She is so rude and rough with kids. She said to my daughter that she was a cry baby after getting some blood. And two weeks ago after taking blood from my new born baby I proceeded to breastfeed and she said not to because she will use me as a pacifier. She continued to give me unsolicited advice on how to breastfeed.
My daughter was having a hard time latching so (I guess she was trying to help) she decided to touch my breast and "help me". I found that to be very unprofessional. If she wanted to help at least ask for my permission before touching me. I'm staying with this practice only to see if our experience will be better with Dr. Patterson.

Their office staff is extremely unorganized. There was an adjustment to our insurance (being dropped from AFA program) and they didn't catch if for almost a year and then back charged us almost $500 when we all figured it out. We attempted to power through that bad experience anyway and the following visit was a few mins late upon which we were turned away.
I own a business myself and things happen. We have a policy that if you're less than 20 late we honor appts. This experience has been extremely stressful and to boot it just doesn't seem like they care. We are definitely NEVER coming back.

DO NOT GO TO CAPITAL PEDIATRICS. Capital Pediatrics is a 'no refusal' practice now, which I think is ironic and completely wrong. BUT I don't discriminate against people for their beliefs/religion/race/or whatever and I believe people should not discriminate against me. The most disturbing thing is, that they have known for NINE years that my kids are not vaccinated AND they didn't tell me when I made the appointment with their pediatrician (from birth!), would refuse to treat them. So, I'm sorry Capital Pediatrics doesn't make any money from insurance and vaccinations from clients that don't vaccinate.
But that doesn't give the long-standing pediatrician the right to deny medical treatment, especially of a CHILD. I'm NOT sorry my kids are never sick. Parents who vaccinate should stop going to doctor's that work in 'no refusal' clinics, too. If the discriminating practices lose their cash flow maybe it will get them to obey their Hippocratic Oath once again.

I've never had another problem with billing at CPG, and I have to say that the professionalism of the staff, the caliber of the care, and the convenience of being able to be seen in a timely manner really trump any issue I've had with billing. We love CPG, and we've been with them for 6 years. We hope for another 6!

I had to change my daughter's Doctor due to her insurance. I use to tale my 43 year old daughter there when she was a child and everyone there were so kind and courteous. I loved the doctors there. I changed my youngest daughter from her ARC doctor to Dr. Frank at Capital Pediactics. Although he was unavailable last month when my daughter became ill with fever.
We had to seeDr. Hughes. He was so kind and gentle with Alicia. He took his time to explain everything about her illness and answered my questions I asked him. I love Capital Pediatrics! All of the employees are so nice. They treat you with dignity and respect.

I don't want to cast unfair aspersions on the former USSR, but Capital Pediatric is how I imagine medicine in a Soviet Block country. I say this not simply because the environs are dim and bleak, the receptionist is unkind and the clinical assistants seem overworked and rushed. Our doctor spent about 3 minutes with us, didn't make eye contact once and (here's where it gets bad) diagnosed our daughter's rash as "just something babies sometimes get.
It will just go away on its own so don't worry about it." After a month of it not going away we got a second opinion from another pediatrician who took one look at it and said that it was a STAFF INFECTION! What?! I think we'd be more likely to visit a veterinarian than to return to Capital Pediatrics.

We absolutely LOVE everyone at this pediatrician! Dr. Hughes has been my children's pediatrician for 4 years and every time we go, no matter the results we all leave happy. Dr. Hughes is a doctor that makes sure that you understand what is going on with your child and how to spot things, he is so kind with my children and I. We are always put at ease, no matter the situation.
He realizes coming to see him isn't always necessary, never over reacts to things and has never steared us wrong. He realizes these are your children and so you have the right to chose what vaccinations you do or don't want for your children or at what rate they administer them and would never try and pressure you into anything for your children. They are always fast, we have never waited around for a long time and ALL of the ladies at the front desk, check out desk and male and female nurses are so unbelievably kind, going above and beyond to help us and make my children feel special.
They always get a coin to use on their little toy dispensers in the office before we go and there are large fish tanks, toys, puzzles and TV'S to keep them happily entertained when we are there. Everytime I have called to speak to a nurse for advice (which is free), it has always been sound and it isn't always "bring them in." You can always count on them getting you in the same day you call and they have emergency and weekend hours!
My child has wanted to be a doctor and work alongside Dr. Hughes since he could talk and my kids have always LOVED going to see their doctor, shots and all because of how great this place is!

The best thing about this place is the support staff. The front desk staff, nurses, MAs and lab techs have all be exceptional every time we have brought our two year old in. We are always greeted with a smile and a friendly face and that goes a very long way in my book. We have been taking our son to Dr. Mani since he was born. She is pleasant enough but our visits with her often seem rushed and impersonal.
I know she is busy and has many pantients, but it wouldn't hurt her to show a bit more interest in her patients. She's just a little cold for my liking. Pros? -Great support staff -After hours appointments -*usually* good about sticking to appointment times (sometimes even get you back early) Cons? -Dr. Mani is less than warm and fuzzy

I really wanted to like CPG, and I feel like I gave it every opportunity. I had a 2 year old at the time and was pregnant with my 2nd, and our pediatrician was retiring, so I went with a referral for Dr. Treybig from a friend of mine. I met with her in advance to ensure that she had the style/approach that we were looking for -- nothing out of the ordinary, but looking for approachable/personable/a good listener, etc -- and she was all of those things. Coming out of that initial meeting, I was feeling good about the switch over.
But almost immediately after my youngest was born (he's 6 months now), I realized that she didn't take the time with her appointments that I was expecting and there were important pieces of information that I didn't feel were given at each check up. I left several of our first well baby visits, got home, and then had to call back up to the office to ask follow up questions that I realized weren't covered off on - at the 2 week apt, do I need to give vitamin D drops since I'm breastfeeding, at the 2 month apt, what's his weight/height %, at the 4 mo. apt, should I start him on cereal and is rice cereal still a no-no due to the arsenic, etc.
I looked past all of the above as I was a 2nd time mom, and thought that maybe she thought I didn't need to be told/reminded on the "typical" schedule. But then my youngest came down with a really high fever that lasted for days. It started over the weekend, so we went in to see her first thing on Monday. It wasn't clear what was going on as he didn't have any other symptoms except being miserable, so she ran a lot of tests after running them all by me for the ok (urine, throat culture, blood culture).
The tech explained that it would take 5 days to get the results back, so we waited & waited & waited. And we NEVER heard anything. By that time, my son had thrown up and I knew it was a simple stomach virus, but I was appalled that no one in the office called me to share the results on his lab work. Even at his well baby check 2 weeks later, it never came up.
Other things that rubbed me the wrong way -- we never received any detail on what vaccines we would be receiving at that visit (I know there's a typical schedule that they go by, but it would have been nice to discuss them or at least be given a list with potential side effects to look out for like our last pedi provided) and every time I called with questions re: my son's acid reflux, I was told to come in for an apt.
I specifically asked on two different occasions if Dr. Treybig could give me a call during her break or at the end of the day to discuss some of the symptoms, and I was always told to schedule an apt instead. This was frustrating to me considering that my friend told me she was good with phone calls (on occasion, not to be taken advantage of) and I had asked her about that during our initial interview since that was something our last pedi made sure to do as well.
All in all, Dr. Treybig simply didn't live up to my expectations. I know she's a very in demand doctor and runs a tight schedule, but I personally didn't feel listened to or that she cared. To read the glowing reviews of her above where she "researched all night to find a solution" is the doctor I was hoping to work with, and I'm disappointed that we didn't have the same experience. Things that I really liked about CPG -- their after hours & weekend clinic, how they schedule well checks in the AM and sick kids in the afternoon, and the fact that the lab tech is AMAZING!

My wife and I are extremely satisfied with the care that our two daughters have received at Capital Pediatric. Dr. Treybig and Dr. Ma have been the doctors that we have seen most frequently, and we are genuinely impressed with their skill, compassion, and presence of mind. Over the six years that our daughters have received care from Capital Pediatric, we have met most of the doctors in the practice, and there is not a single doctor among them that I would not trust. More over, some of the nurses should be nominated for sainthood.

My wife and I brought our 17 month old daughter in to get checked. When my wife called in to make the appointment the women on the phone, very kindly, gave her step by step directions from our home. The check in receptionist and doctor's assistant were also very kind and professional. However, our experience with Dr. Hughes was very unpleasant.
He was incredibly rough with our daughter while checking inside her mouth and ears. As she sat on my wife's lap, he pushed her head back forcefully with his thumb without warning. When she began to cry, he unapologetically continued, and told us multiple times to "hold her arms down", while he tried to pull her mouth open. When that didn't work, he forced it open with a tongue depresser.
Not once did he stop, even briefly, to comfort our crying daughter. In the same manner, he forcibly turned her head, as she cried, to check her ears. He then gave us his diagnosis, and an all too brief explanation of the symptoms, before quickly heading out the door. This review is not intended to represent our feelings toward any of the other professionals associated with this practice.
This was our first visit, and we have had no interaction with any healthcare providers in this group, except Dr. Hughes. This is intended to be a review of his services, and his alone. If we do return, we definitely will request to see a different provider.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HERE! My daughter has been a patient here with Dr. Mani for 5 years. This past 2 months we have been put through hell, at the expense of my child's health. She tested positive for Strep in Mid Feb 2014 though a quick test, she was prescribed Antibiotics. After a full 10 days her symptoms didn't improve. We were given a second round of Antibiotics, because she yet again tested positive on a quick test.
There was a culture test ordered from her swab to determine if she was a carrier. I waited for results for over a week, finally getting desperate I called them. I was informed the culture was lost. Bring her in for another throat swab culture test. She is again tested for strep on the quick test, comes back positive. Okay so I am being told she is a carrier and might need her tonsils out.
Again given an additional antibiotic & an even stronger antibiotic to finish the 10 day dose. So I wait, a week goes by no results on my daughters culture. I call the nurse leave a message. I missed a call from Dr. Mani telling me she will call again tomorrow. The next day Scarlett's stomach pain is severe and bloated. I take her in to get checked out, and I am informed they have no culture results, because it was lost again. Dr. Mani casually tells me how none of the nurses yesterday didn't want to call and tell me they again for the second time lost my daughters strep culture.
They took a final strep culture and quick strep test. The quick test comes back positive. I inform them I don't want the culture done, Dr. Mani suggest we just go ahead and send the culture off. At that point I was so hurt that they would make such horrible errors, paid only by my daughters pain and suffering. The last three months have been hell, I have her nurse on speed dial at school, she has missed so many days, after every meal she eats, she experiences stomach pain.
She just finished the last of her Potent strong antibiotics, and she has had diarrhea for 2 days, and severe stomach pain since then. After being treated so poorly I immediately made a new appointment with a different doctor at Austin Regional Clinic, she was seen that day. She had a culture done and tested NEGATIVE FOR STREP! This whole thing was a gross error of Capital Pediatrics. I have never felt so violated by doctors office. All of this at my daughters expense. DO NOT TRUST THEM. This is how they treat their patient of five years, medical neglect.

3 Star practice - until I read what LR posted "Readers should know that Capital Pediatrics at 39th Street is currently offering parents the opportunity to win a Kindle Fire for posting FAVORABLE reviews on Yelp. " Really? But counted how many favorable reviews- 5 in the month of May and mostly by yelpers that have only reviewed 1-3 times. Pretty shady if you ask me and against Yelp policy.
Business are not allowed to offer anything in return for reviews. Defeats the whole system. I took my son there for 2 years. It was sufficient practice. The staff and doctors are nice and knowledgable. Usually waited about 30 minutes for an appointment, I was OK with that. Sick visits, we would be seen by which ever dr. had availability, I was fine with that. Billing was normal.
They make you come in for a visit, no matter what. No calling and talking to a Dr. Sometimes nurse would offer advice over phone but always had us schedule appointment to be seen. Always had to have appointment for follow up and test results. After Hour Calls- they send call to Seton Nurse station for $12 fee. Bit of a hassle when 1 year old is running high fever and puking in middle of night, would have preferred to talk to a Dr. on call.
I was still OK with this policy though. Final straw. Went for 4 year wellness check. Running through questions and asked if my son was drinking 2% milk and I said no, I had decided to keep him on whole milk for a while (my personal decision, very strong active child). Dr. did not like my answer, sighed and said he needed to drink 2%. We moved on to other questions. Dr. said everything looked great and she would send nurse in for flu shot.
I said we were not getting the flu shot - he got it every year until he was 3 (my own personal decision, it wasn't like I wasn't getting all his vaccinations. which plenty of parents decline to do-thier decision). Dr. was noticeably perturbed. She rolled her eyes and said "fine, do what ever you want". Why thank you. I will do exactly what I want, he is my child.
I know I am not a Dr. and they know a ton more than me. I don't feel that I am putting my 4 yr old child in harms way by letting him drink whole milk and declining the annual flu shot (after he turns 3).
