LASIK reshapes the cornea using a laser to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. First, we use an incredibly accurate femtosecond laser called the IntraLase iFS to create a superficial flap of tissue in the cornea. This flap is then folded back, and a cool beam of light from an excimer laser gently reshapes the underlying surface of the cornea. The entirely blade-free LASIK treatment typically takes less than one minute, at which point the flap is replaced in its original position.
Keratoconus is a disease affecting the cornea where the cornea bows forward abnormally, causing blurred vision. It is a fairly common condition, affecting about 1 in 400 people. It tends to run in families, and there is a strong correlation with eye rubbing and ocular allergies. Children can sometimes be affected, and their vision can deteriorate very rapidly.

Highly unethical & rudest front desk staff. Recently they began sending medical students in to do important exams rather than the doctor. They lied about this changing the story several times, and they then claimed that they are now a "teaching facility" so that legally they are allowed to do this which is untrue. They also had advised a type of eyedrops (filled wt preservatives) that my new eye doctor said was making my eyes worse.
They refused to give me my personal medical records for over 10 days making excuses, causing me to miss my first appointment with my new eye doctor. I have never seen Dr. Dell at the clinic. And I wonder if he has any idea how these people are running his office. Worst experience ever.

I had a poor experience with cataract lens replacement with DelVision. 1. I had a reaction to the anesthesia, had an emergency catheter that evening, and I was nauseous for three days; 2. Later, they recommended a YAG laser procedure, which caused cornea edema and pain and great blurriness in both eyes (not the expected reactions). 3. my vision is still not clear at distance after six months. 4.
In December, they prescribed Xiidra for dry eye and gave me a sample pack. In February, Dr. Cunnigham said they would try something else for dry eye. However, the front desk gave me a Xiidra pack again and told me to use it. I objected, but they told me to use it and wrote it down for me. I used it. They changed the prescription to Restasin because of cost, but didn't inform me of the change.
I used up the sample pack of Xiidra again, then realized I had a different prescription for restasin. When I called for clarification and objected to not being told of the change, they said I was rude. They agreed that Xiidra doesn't work over the short term. The front desk said they always give out a sample pack of Xiidra for dry eye (regardless of the prescription?).
My impression is that the front desk overruled the doctor and told me to take Xiidra, changed it back when the cost was too high, didn't inform me, and was angry when I objected. Not going back.

I am very pleased with the whole experience at Dell Laser Center from the consultation to surgery to post op visits. Dr Dell was very pleasant and skillful. Everything during the surgery at Texas Surgery Center was very organized and I was kept informed on everything that was going to happen. For my post care I have been seeing Dr W who is very thorough and patient with me and all my questions.
He has also really helped me with my dry eye problem. 11 days after surgery I'm 20/25 and optimistic I will continue to improve. I appreciate Dr Dell, Dr W and all the staff at DLC! Thank you!

At my first visit to Dr. Dell's highly recommended practice for cataract consultation and possible surgery, his and his staff's skill and professionalism impressed me. Exam equipment appears to be state-of-the-art, technicians smoothly and carefully examined me, observant of my disabilities and Dr. Dell himself answered all my questions. I felt I was in good hands for this much-needed and feared surgery.

Short version: Expect a hefty bill and no support for billing or insurance issues. Medical professionals were great, but if you're spending the next month resolving an insurance/billing mess with resistance from the office staff, it kinda nets out negative. Long version: Was referred here by my primary eye doctor for LASIK. Of the two providers for LASIK I was referred to, they were definitely the more expensive ones, but I was more than happy to pay more for a good doctor and full support before/after the procedures.
The medical professionals who did the screenings/actual medical procedures were fantastic. They explained things thoroughly, took their time with my procedures, and I could not have been more satisfied in that regard. HOWEVER, it has been hellish to get the information/support I needed after my post-op appointments were complete. I needed two simple documents (one for my pre-op exam and one for the actual LASIK procedure) on letterhead to submit claims to my eye insurance company.
I got the information required from the insurance company, filled out the information and sent it via email to their billing team, and they still told me they could not provide this documentation! All they had to do was copy and paste the information onto letterhead, which I imagine would only take a few minutes. I had multiple phone calls and emails back and forth over the course of 3 weeks, and the office stopped responding through both methods of communication (email thread died, I left a phone message that went totally unanswered for a week, etc.).
I had to take the morning off, GO DOWN TO THE OFFICE, and request this information IN PERSON. When I arrived at the office, explained the situation AND provided proof from my insurance company, they STILL tried to argue with me but eventually relented. I honestly can't believe that a facility that calls themselves an Academy of Science and charges $5k for a procedure struggles this much to be responsive to patients (who are trying their best to make requests as easy as possible!) and provide reasonable documentation. It honestly ruined the overall experience and diminished the value that their medical providers delivered.

It took a bit longer to get an appointment, but they spent the time to diagnose my problem which had 2 causes. One required the YAG laser to clean up scaring from Lens I had them install in 2020. That procedure dramatically improved my vision. I had been to a competitor Eye Doctor who said I had very little scaring just 2weeks earlier and didn't recommend the YAG procedure. Thank goodness Dr Dell saw it and resolved it. I'd go here over anywhere else.

The best place for Lasik hands down. I was very apprehensive about lasik and generally anxious about the procedure, but everyone at Dell laser made the process super simple and ensured that everything went off without a hitch. The procedure was performed by Dr. Dell and he was very nice, of course knowledgeable, but also patient with my queries. Dr. Theresa Nguyen saw me before and after the procedure; was top notch, friendly and detail oriented. All the staff at Dell laser were great and I highly recommend this place over others.

DLC is the best choice you can make for your eyes. I developed cataracts in my forties as a result of the steroid shots I received to combat chronic pain. The procedure to correct my vision, the care leading up to it, and the care afterward was top notch. Both the doctors and staff are extremely professional and caring.

I had a wonderful experience with Dell Lasik. Dr. Nguyen from the very beginning helped me understand the procedure, my outcomes and my recovery, and answered all of my questions. That visit sealed the deal, and my experience continued to be top notch. Dr. Dell and his team are a professional and compassionate group! I would recommend to anyone. And I love my new vision!

I've undergone care at Dell Laser Consultants for 3 years. While I have been pleased with the how prompt their are with appointments, I have been less satisfied with not being able to reach someone by phone. Leaving a phone number and waiting for a callback is the standard. Callbacks have been somewhat unpredictable. Also, my treatments have followed a path of costly remedies that haven't worked, each time I'm given false promise this next option "should do the trick".
While I don't expect miracles for dry eyes, I feel I've been lead down a routine path of costly prescriptions that fall way short of the expectation they set in office visits. The final prescription was going to cost $125 for a 30-day supply which prompted further questions which is when I learned from the pharmacist was really a cosmetic treatment for droopy eye lids and had nothing to do with the condition being treated.
This was not even discussed with me in the doctor's office. After phoning DLC to verify this wasn't a mistake, they confirmed they do prescribe for patience with droopy eye lids and has not treatment benefit for eye-dryness. I'm really surprised that an already costly treatment regiment was about to suddenly involved another costly prescription that falls outside the scope of treatment at hand and we didn't even discuss it.

From the onset of my seeking care to correct my vision; the staff were welcoming and made my continued appointments with much efficiency and ease. After extensive research on my own and with present eyecare with Dr. Mayberry; I had completely ruled out Lasix; not being a permanent solution. I was treated by Dr. Varu (my surgeon) and Dr. Zimmerman, whom offered me so much guidance and quickly and proficiently answered any/all my questions/concerns about the option of Refractive Lens Replacement; as well as the after-care.
Due to age concerns and wanting to seek a more permanent solution to my many years of glasses/contacts/eye infections; this procedure (although quite still new to me) has offered me so much more "freedom" of bifocals and longer eye problems that did concern me as we mature. Yes, it is like "preventive cataract surgery" and sometimes we may be too young for such a process, yet in my case this was the right choice and even now as I heal there may be some "bumps in the road", but better than having to always add more thickness to glasses or changing contact solutions and carrying all that each time I travel is more worthwhile.
Some offices may have their minor delays when you are at your appointments, but the overall care I received with this location outweighs whatever "inconvenience, I may have felt". I thank you for my new found reason to actually buy real sunglasses and no more (heavy) transition/bifocal glasses.

This review is more of frustration with DLC wait times in Office. Let's be clear from the onset that my experience with DLC has been nothing less than outstanding as I had Refractive Lens Exchange surgery performed a couple years ago by Doctor Dell and Doctor Cunningham. These two doctors coupled with their technical staff were excellent. My problem is this, you make an appointment at 11:00 or 11:30 and then show up for your appointment on time and then wait around, never an update and zero regard for your time, you could be sitting through lunch time with substantial wait times.
Why is this? Is it just bad timing? lunch breaks? or is it just a systemic failure? If you have a 9:30 appointment, you will be seen in less than 15 minutes but that's just an FYI for readers. These 11:00am 11:30am appointments offers zero consideration to your individual schedule and lack of comms lead you to believe that they just aren't cognizant to it.
I for one can't wait around for them to see me when I have a schedule to adhere to with people that depend on me keeping these schedules. I needed this appointment and now am stuck with calling them back for follow up or call another Doctor. I want to be clear that this isn't unique to me, other patients that I referred for the same surgery offer the same circumstances.
So as I said it's systemic and needs to change. I understand that it is called a "waiting room" but they bring a whole new meaning to those terms. If you make an appointment, make sure it's early AM or be ready for the wait

The gift of site is an awesome thing. I didn't realize how much I was missing until I could see again. The staff at del laser was awesome. Dr Dell was very professional and knew exactly what to do. I was extremely anxious the staff kept me calm and walked me through everything which helps so much I want to make a special shout out to Dr. Nouyen.
She was awesome at my follow-up visits she made me feel relaxed and comfortable and reassured me that things were fine she was extremely professional and I really want to thank her when she saw that when I was a little more inflamed she told me how to treat it and I'm very grateful. I would also like to thank sigrid she was also very sweet and patient with me.
The procedure was painless the whole staff was wonderful this is 2 weeks out and my vision is doing great thus far I'm very grateful to del laser and Dr. Dell and his entire staff. Surgery center was great as well, they kept me comfortable and we'll informed

If my review sounds similar to others here it's because there are things this office seems to reliably do well and do poorly. The doctors seem competent even if they don't "do" much. Instead they seem to prefer a wait and see approach. When vision deteriorates enough and there is opportunity to perform a surgery or procedure then they will spring into action quickly.
The recommended prescriptions and treatments can be expensive. You may be better off doing some research on your own on something that might work just as well. The doctors also don't seem to take good notes. Several times I've had various doctors here contradict each other. Even the ones I've met with multiple times can't remember what was done previously.
More organization, please. And yes - they sent me to the collections agency a month after my last visit. It was a small amount of money. I didn't even know I owed it. They had several opportunities while I made multiple visits to the clinic to ask me to pay but did not. They could have mailed me a bill or (could you imagine?) phoned me to let me know their was a balance due, but instead said one month was enough time. Let's go after this deadbeat! It's possible to get good service here. Just be prepared for some of these "quirks".

So, after 3 years of fantastic vision after my lens replacement cataract surgery, my eye sight started to deteriorate rapidly. My eye doctor suggested I go back to Dell for a treatment with a YAG laser. I was seen my the folks at Dell who concurred and set up an appointment for the procedure. Unfortunately COVID-19 delayed the appointment for 3 months.
I went in yesterday, saw several folks who performed some exams including Dr. Cunningham. I wonder if all of that is needed, but reassuring to know they have the latest info on my eyes. Then Dr. Dell came in and used the laser on both my eyes. Just took a few minutes for the procedure, and I was on my way. My eyesight is wonderful again, and Dr. Dell assured me this problem would not come back since he had "removed" the offending tissue. Thanks, Dr. Dell and staff. P.S.
I know some have complained about the telephone never being answered and never getting a call back. Just want to say, I called today--the phone was answered and transferred to billing. I did have to leave a message there, but they called back pretty quickly and answered all my questions. I recommend this place for the highest quality care.

I went here because I have keratoconus. The doctor said the only option was a $5000 surgery that isn't covered by most insurance. Scleral lenses - which are covered and work well to correct this issue were NEVER mentioned - I literally found out about sclerals by doing my own research online. I think this is pretty irresponsible, given this is their area of expertise and led me to put off correcting this problem for months.

If I could give them zero stars I would. They tried to scam me out of $5,000 for an eye surgery I did not need. At first, they told me I only needed surgery on one eye and than my last appointment before the surgery they said they were doing both of my eyes because that's standard procedure and I knew something fishy was going on so I went to another eye doctor to confirm their results and it was completely different than the scans they showed me. Dr. Dell was sued out of his last practice and Dr. Cunningham is known to be crooked. Glad I went to another eye dr to confirm their results so I didn't pay $5,000 for an eye surgery I did not need.

I was referred to Dr. Dell by several people for Lasik surgery and I'm so glad I went to him. When it comes to eyesight I wanted to make sure I had the best and Dr. Dell is definitely that, which makes him pricier than some other places but well worth it. If you want a cozy experience where you are coddled the entire way then perhaps this isn't for you, but if you genuinely want the best and most professional care then I can't recommend them enough.
From Dr. Cunningham and his assistants to the front office staff Emily and Dr. Dell himself they ensure all questions are answered and that you receive the best treatment possible. The best part is waking up that same day and having 20/10 vision it's incredible! Again if you want a 'buy one eye get one free' groupon type of office then this probably isn't the place for you, but if you're looking for the top experts in the Ophthalmology field I can't imagine going anywhere else, they're amazing!

The receptionist called me back the next day (11/1), stating that she was returning my phone call. I was a little shocked, because I wasn't sure how she knew that there was a phone call to return because I was never given the opportunity to leave a message before I hung up the phone. My only guess is that they referred to the yelp review. However, there was no apology.
At all. Instead she just stated, "well, we were busy." I told her that I was not ready anymore to book the procedure because I wasn't going to drop over $5,000 on my health when I didn't feel 100% comfortable. When she said, "you can call back when you'd like." I asked when a good time might be because I'm usually just left on hold for a long time.
She said, "it's hard to to tell, we're usually busy. But I can help you now." I'm sorry, but that interaction just made me madder. She obviously didn't get the hint that I was upset. An apology from her would have gone a long way. After reading the yelp reviews further, I realized that this seems to be common business practice.
I have decided to go elsewhere. Dr. Varu seemed nice and all (albeit rushed), but I shouldn't need to go see a cardiologist about my blood pressure because of the ophthalmologist's receptionist.

I felt like the staff thought they worked for a celebrity. They seemed snooty, short and rude. They could be a little nicer and welcoming. Even the caucasian lady that works in the back that gets the patients was rude doesn't seem to like her job. The two Hispanic ladies seemed very genuine and friendly. That including Dr. Cunningham's assistant she was very professional. I believe they are busier than years before but that doesn't mean that the level of friendliness should be sacrificed.

I was referred to Dr. Dell and Dell Laser Consultants by several co-workers for Custom IntraLasik. They were flexible with my schedule and got me in for an evaluation during my open enrollment period at work to confirm that I was a candidate for Lasik. Appreciated their responsiveness here. I'm writing this review because I checked Yelp as a last minute double check despite personal referrals.
I was disappointed that I did because it made me second guess my decision. However, I moved forward and believe that these negative reviews are without merit for those who are interested in top treatment for what can be a nerve-wracking procedure. Let me share my experience: After deemed a candidate and if you decide to move forward, here's what to expect: 1) Stop wearing contacts about 10-14 days before surgery 2) A pre-surgery meeting prior to surgery (mine was the week of) with Dr. Cunningham. 3) The actual Lasik surgery date with Dr. Dell (usually on a Thursday) 4) A post-op meeting with Dr. Cunningham the following day.
All of my appointments started promptly on time and the staff couldn't have been more friendly. Throughout each step the procedure was explained and I was patiently asked for any questions I may have. There are several steps of instructions in terms of prescriptions you need to get prior to surgery. During my morning of surgery, while in the waiting room, I overheard that most other patients had a hard time following through on the requirements so I gained special appreciation for the staff who had to reiterate the instructions and find creative solutions for those patients.
The meeting with Dr. Cunningham the week of surgery was great. He clearly explained the procedure and checked for questions. Continued to set my expectations and check for questions. His role is to ensure that there are no issues before or after surgery. The day of surgery was awesome. Melissa walked me through the prep and she was so personable, friendly and again showed that she really cared that I was comfortable. Dr. Dell was the same way, very relaxed and reassured me that I was a great candidate.
If nothing else, I want to share that the procedure itself was so easy! I was worried it'd be extremely uncomfortable or scary. It wasn't. You don't feel a thing and you watch your vision improve before your eyes. It's awesome. Also, there are at least two additional nurses in the room with you and they reassure you and coach you the whole way.
All this to say that if you choose Dr. Dell and Dell Laser Consultants you'll be pleased with the experience and outcome. If I had focused too much on these negative yelp reviews I would have missed out so I hope that this helps to overcome that. It'll be the best decision you can make!
