Advanced Pain Care has selected a new healthcare EHR system to optimize operations, support growth, and better serve our patients!. While this will be a positive change, you may see a few issues as we implement it in early January. You may notice longer visit times as we learn the system and adjust our workflow. We will do our best, but it is possible that we will have less appointment slots available while we train. Plan ahead when booking your appointments and come prepared as we will need to scan a new copy of your driver's license and insurance cards.

Beginning in 2002, Dr. Malone and the pain specialists at Advanced Pain Care have been working hard to relieve the suffering of thousands of patients in pain. With thirteen locations and three surgery centers across Texas, we are capable of treating patients all the way from San Marcos to Amarillo, Texas.
At Advanced Pain Care, our ongoing commitment to your comfort and improvement is a primary concern. Our team of experienced doctors and staff will closely monitor your condition and work with you on a personal level. Treatment options for these conditions include precision nerve injections, epidural steroid injections, radio frequency, spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal pumps, physical therapy, pain medicine, and psychological support.
There are many causes of lower or upper back pain, such as poor posture, strenuous exercise schedules, psychological stress, and more serious reasons such as nerve damage, obesity, arthritis, and failed back surgery. Sometimes, back pain can be treated with physical therapy, home remedies, injections, and over the counter medication.

Everyone at Advanced Pain Care South, 360, and the Round Rock surgical center has been awesome. Do your physical therapy, follow prescription protocol, get injections when needed, and make an effort to get better and they will help you. I have had 2 spinal epidurals and a partial knee replacement and feel as if they truly care about my well-being. Thanks!

I don't work for APC.so this is a real review. APC and Dr. Ximenes are by far the best pain management in Austin. I've used others that are horrible, liars and rude. I don't think you can do better and that's with 15 years experience. Dr. Ximenes is the best doc I Know. God bless these people they helped me get back my life. David M

I switched to Advanced Pain Care to see Dr. Pamela Howard for narcolepsy, which is a new service they offer. My visit was great, but the follow-up to request a refill on my prescription every month was terrible. No one would respond to my messages via the patient portal, I'd have to call and confirm multiple times to get a refilled prescription, and there was quite a bit of "red tape" to get authorization forms cleared for my regular medicine.
Despite many requests to talk to the doctor or a nurse, no one ever called me back or responded to my messages, so I was stuck talking to their answering service time and time again. I will not be returning to this location and do not recommend it to narcolepsy patients.

Dr Michaud you sir are awesome! I really appreciate the care you provide me with and the way you treat me. So many Dr's i have been to downplay things and don't listen to what is going on. You have always listened and asked me, what can i do for you to make you feel better. You display concern for your patients and I really appreciate you for that. One of my favorite Doctors so far!

I've been a chronic pain patient with APC for about 14 years. The providers have been consistently great. I've been seeing Stephanie Borgstrand for several years and she's wonderful, very professional and thorough. The addition of the RX Is really nice. They are very efficient, prices are great. Had a first appt with Dr Howard who was exceptional. Did a very thorough neuro exam and answered all my questions. Great organization.

After 2 yrs of pain care from another dr, who never once controlled my pain, I went to see dr Malone at Advanced Pain Care. On my very first visit he changed the medication I had been on & helped me tremendously! I have always had good care there & am thankful for the help I receive. I have been going to APC since 2004 & am grateful I found them.

If you are looking for an office that returns phone calls or provides great patient care I would look elsewhere. My husband scheduled his surgery 2 months in advance. I called multiple times and left messages to go over Financials and we finally received a text message about our portion due on Friday at 5:00 pm 3 days before his surgery. With multiple calls and emails I never received a call back.
We were told services must be paid in full at the time of check in. Since my husband needed surgery of course I paid in full however a call back would have been appreciated. Nothing. Now a day after the surgery we have tried and tried to get in touch with the doctor to get his pain under control and again multiple calls to the office beginning at 9 am it's almost 5 and still can't get a call back.
One would think after major surgery the doctor or someone from the office would call to check on their patient and we have not received anything. The surgeon himself was great it's great however this office is not very patient friendly. We did receive a text however that they canceled his post stop appointment and no call to reschedule. Again if you're looking for an amazing patient experience this place is not

Searching for a new pain Dr was a daunting task for me but when I found APC, boy was I surprised! Everyone from the initial person I talked to on the phone with to Dr. Michaud has been very helpful and pleasant to work with. I have a pain pump and getting it filled by Dana is always pleasant. She is very competent in what she does. All my questions are answered and the text message appt reminders are fantastic! The facility is always clean and neat. I am so glad I found APC!

I was very impressed by the care and knowledge of the staff. The organization of the office and how they handled the flow of patients was very impressive. Dr. Paterno was amazing. He was very caring and understanding. He listened to me carefully and reviewed my history carefully and came up with a wonderful treatment plan. I'm so glad I came to Advanced Pain Care.

After waiting for my appointment for over a month, (which was fine and typical for a specialist), I would have expected that they'd verify my insurance before I arrived. Instead, they didn't verify it until I was sitting in their office. They called my insurance company while I sat and waited, so they could see how much money I owed them.
I knew my copay for a specialist was $50 but somehow they came back with $155 that I had to pay them BEFORE they would let me in for my appointment. I have NEVER had to pay that much up front, and I KNOW that wasn't right, but I also had driven a half hour for an appointment I'd waited over a month for. So I paid it. They also told me my next appointment would be $211.
I have insurance! There was another woman in line ahead of me who was almost in tears because the registrar was telling her that her payment was over $100 too, and she said her copay for a specialist was also $50 and she couldn't afford to pay all that on the spot. But they wouldn't let her in to her appointment. As soon as I paid, they sent me back to a room. Then, I had a girl come in and ask me for all the lab work I'd had over the past few months, and I said " they don't give me the lab results. it should all be in their system or could be sent over from my doctor's office from their system." She then talked down to me about how they'd called me multiple times and I never called them back." I informed her I DID call them back and spoke to their office a few times and I was the one who called them back and scheduled the appointment.
Once another lady came in to talk to me about my symptoms, this one was much kinder and attentive. When Dr. Pegram came in, he was very kind and supportive. He listened attentively and made me feel validated. I would definitely recommend him as a doctor, but I won't go back to that office.

I've been consulting with APC for a while now and have had a good experience until today. My interaction with Onica (or Monica) was extremely disappointing and I ended the call feeling insulted. While the point being contented was valid, she was extremely rude, insensitive and completely inconsiderate of my circumstances. I recommend that she be given some sensitivity training for interacting with patients.

Very clean and roomy waiting room, staff for checking in and checking out very cordial and friendly. I was impressed by the knowledgeable nursing staff and the doctors as well they really made me feel at ease and they could help me with my arthritis back, looking forward to working with these folks.

The Doctors, Nurses, and entire staff at APC are the best. Everyone is very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. As a Chronic Pain suffer I can say that even though I still have pain, these doctors are doing a great job at trying to find ways to help relieve my pain. As well as trying to pin-point the source of my pain, and not just giving me more and more pain meds to mask it.

I'm wondering if the people who work here hate their jobs, because most of them seem to be grumpy and rude. They've already made several mistakes with my prescriptions. I had to go back to this office to correct them. It's only a matter of time until we don't have to put up with this kind of treatment. Patients deserve to be treated with kindness and respect and to have meds prescribed appropriately. I'm a professional in the community, yet when I come in here, I'm treated like a drug abuser.
I understand urine checks. That's fine. It's the attitude of the clinicians which is condescending and rude. I urge anyone who has a choice to go elsewhere. Just because we experience pain and have a need to take pain meds or have spinal procedures (which don't work!) doesn't give another human the right to treat us as inferior. Trust me-it all comes back around somehow. To the practitioners at Advanced Pain, you don't have to work here either. You get to choose how you treat people.

If there were a no-star review, I would give it to these people. They do NOT take individual case histories into account, nor are they interested in hearing anything about it. You might get a meeting with the Doc.once. Then you will be shuffled off to an assistant. If you have a chronic condition that probably won't get better - Do not go here. If you have a broken leg that will get better - they are almost adequate.

I received, and continue to receive, excellent and friendly treatment from Dr. Paterno and the staff at Advanced Pain Care. I was referred to Dr. Paterno by my rheumatologist for persistent lower back and SI joint pain likely related to my psoriatic arthritis. The pain was pretty constant throughout the day and really hurt at night when I tried to lay down to sleep, and I was unable to sleep without pain medication. Dr. Paterno continued the tramadol medication my previous doctor had me on and suggested nerve ablation treatments as a way to treat the pain without relying on narcotics.
I had a number of nerve ablation procedures by Dr. Paterno over the summer and got significant pain relief in my SI joint. My lower back and SI joint now feel better than they have in years. I'm not completely off the meds yet but I'm working with a physical therapist and feeling a little better every day. I highly recommend Dr. Paterno at Advanced Pain Care if you have persistent pain in your back or lower back joints like SI. Dr. Paterno is very skilled, very professional, and very understanding and friendly, and all of the staff at Advanced Pain Care South and at the Round Rock Surgery Center are very nice.
