Dr. Coyle, a colon and rectal specialist, and Dr. Merck, a general surgeon, decided that joining their efforts would be beneficial to both. As partners, they could provide coverage for one another and utilize their skills as surgeons by assisting each other when necessary. Although Dr. Merck is now deceased, it was their vision to have a facility where cost-effective colonoscopy and ano-rectal surgery could be performed as an office-based procedure in a safe environment. Now over 3000 procedures are performed yearly and most insurance carriers realize the cost effectiveness and safety that accredited office-based surgical facilities can offer.

Transrectal ultrasound, Transrectal ultrasonography, or TRUS for short, is a procedure that helps create an image of the rectum, its wall, and the surrounding tissues. Much like with pregnant women, the images in ultrasound are produced through soundwaves which can travel through body tissue to create an accurate image of human tissue in question.

Everything was great until procedure day. I needed a ligation for a painful, prolapsed, hemorrhagic hemorrhoid. I had requested, and was told, that I would receive a local anesthetic. However, I was denied the local anesthesia the morning of the procedure and had the procedure with no local anesthesia at all. I was told that I would feel no pain. I felt everything.
The experience was excruciating both during the procedure and after. I took three tylenol that I had in my purse, because I was offered nothing, and begged for some lidocaine cream, which I received a 0.5 ml sample of. When I arrived home, I attempted to rest but the pain was unbearable. I called and spoke with Jamie, the nurse, and she talked over me the entire time I tried to explain my pain.
She had a complete lack of empathy as she explained to me how busy she was. She said that the procedure was not painful and that I should not feel any pain. She then said that they do not prescribe pain medication and even if they did they couldn't call or e-scribe it, it would have to be picked up. As a medical professional myself, I know for a fact that this is untrue.
Not all pain medications can not be called in. There are some that can be. I felt like I was being treated like a drug seeker because my pain was dismissed. Not just dismissed, I was explicitly told by the nurse that I shouldn't be in pain. The whole reason the procedure was scheduled in the first place was to remove the hemorrhoid because it was so painful and enlarged!
I am in shock and very upset by this experience. *Edit. After 30 minutes, Jamie the nurse called me back and with the same unempathetic tone said the Dr. would send an rx for pain medication to my pharmacy. Ugh.

The Butt Hut is an amazing place to have a colonoscopy or hemorrhoid surgery. They have a seasoned staff and they don't keep you waiting long and they treat you like a king and queen. Their doctors are the best in town. We absolutely love Dr. Mark Parker. Such a wonderful experience. I highly recommend them.

Had a fantastic experience with Dr. Rosser at the Alabama Colon & Rectal Institute! Second visit in 10 years! Dr. Rosser and all of his staff are very attentive to their patients. The prep protocol the institute uses is easy to follow and also does not require as much fluid intake as other facilities do. My husband has used Dr. Beckham at the Institute several times with the same wonderful outcome.
I have referred Dr. Rosser myself to several friends - all of them went to Dr. Rosser, and they will never go to another doctor other than Dr. Rosser for their future colonoscopies. ALL had a GREAT experience!

The staff at Alabama Colon and Rectal Institute is extremely professional and organized. The receptionists, nurses, nurse anesthetists, and physicians truly make you feel comfortable and at ease; they don't mind questions either (which is rare these days ). A special shout out to Shea (nurse anesthetist) and Dr. Rosser. I hate I can't remember the name of the nurse that started the IV and the male nurse anesthetist who explained the anesthesia.they all did a wonderful job!

This is absolutely the best place to go! I was here years ago for a procedure and my mom is here now for a regular colonoscopy. Dr. Rosser is the absolute best and the staff here is 2nd to none. This group makes you comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. I highly recommend this group for all colon and rectal needs.
