We are currently vacationing but needed medical support and went to the ER there. They were extremely busy tonight but you would never know it by the great attitudes and care we received. Everyone including people supporting valet parking, receptionists, registration, triage and medical staff have been amazing( RN AMBER, EMT Kyle, Dr Wheeler and Dr Krahmer)! Very thankful for all their kindness and care. Waiting on an MRI and may possibly be admitted but I can't speak enough praises for the care we received thus far!

What a joke. Whatever happened to the days where if you had an ailment and didn't know what it was you can go to the hospital and they admit you and figure it out. Nowadays they want to put a Band-Aid on the situation give you pain medicine and send you on your way. That's all fine and dandy but what happens the next day when the pain medicine wears off and you're back in pain back at a hospital again? I've been to the hospital too many times the past couple years because of different surgeries and because of hospitals not taking the time to figure out what's wrong with me in the first place.
When I was in Sarasota memorial today the pain medicine was wearing off and I mentioned it to the nurse and she said she would tell the doctor and get me more pain medicine. The nurse came back and said the doctor was working on getting me more pain medicine an hour later I'm still waiting the nurse came back in and told me she was going to check on it herself 15 minutes later I called the nurses station and ask them about the pain medicine and they said as soon as they get it they will give it to me. 5 minutes later I'm being discharged.
I still have no idea what's going on with me and the hospital doesn't want to take the time to investigate it. What a joke. I love how in covid Hit there was a sign that said heroes work here. No they don't zeros work there. Go ahead and delete my review because I know that's what you cowards will do.

I went to Sarasota Memorial via the emergency. The ER doctors were very good, the people who ran test on me were also excellent. My dissatisfaction was with what took place after I was admitted. I was unhappy with the care I received in the Heart Ward. The doctors did not follow through on the results of my test. When a referral was needed within their own dept. they did not do it.
I had to request it. The doctors relied far too much on the nurses opinion. I was paying to see a doctor not a nurse. A supposedly well qualified nurse drew blood in my right wrist and I still have nerve pain 4 months later. Overall not a pleasant experience. I would not go to this facility again.

I feel the need to follow up my review from yesterday, and I wanted to give 5 stars to EVERYONE else we have come in contact with since the unfortunate interaction with one lone registration person yesterday. I can't talk enough about what a great experience it has been since that moment with the 1 rouge person. And it's not fair to hurt the entire hospital with a 1 star review. Everyone else here deserves better. Keep up the good work! If I could give 6 stars I would.

Trying to receive records for over a year now. Records department is falsifying request paperwork and denying sending the complete set of records which is against hippa. A patient has the right to complete records and they have not complied. All paperwork was submitted and filled out correctly, we received part of the digital images but now they will not release the rest. tell me you're covering something up without telling me you're covering something up!
I will not quit smh until we have what we need so game on! Supervision contacted and outside source of records also contacted with reference back to smh records dept. We will not settle for anything but a full set of records! Unacceptable and unethical on all grounds.

Horrible! Spent the entire evening in triage waiting, WAITING, for a CAT scan evaluation on my father who had fallen and hit his head. My father is 88 years old and 140 pounds. His head was covered in blood and he was dizzy and freezing cold. Hours passed but he was told not to eat or drink anything since it might prevent him from having surgery if needed.
I said to the attendant, I feared if I didn't get him home and feed him he might die right here. She then said 'right here' would be the best place for that to happen. YUP! Apparently dying moves you up the queue! Though never a believer in eastern mysticism, I would recommend shamans and witch craft over Sarasota Memorial Hospital - what have you got to loose except your place in line!

Very disappointed and extremely upsetting experience staring from check in, ER & the Oncology ward. All rude and extremely unprofessional staff. We came here for help and instead we received poor treatment causing us to be more stressed out. My 25 year old daughter is dealing with having cancer, her first week of Chemo and so on. I promise you, my daughter & I, were always please & thank you, through out this whole process to everyone, because that's who we are. I honestly do not think we will come back here. I'm going to look up other hospitals near by. My advise stay clear if you can. It's not worth it.

I had a truly excellent experience at Sarasota Memorial Hospitals ER. They got me back to a room pretty quickly and had nurses/techs and a doctor back to see me pretty quickly as well. Every individual I crossed paths with while I was there was an absolute angel, so kind and caring and truly making what could have been a very traumatic experience a trusting one, I truly knew I was in good hands and was going to be okay. Pre-op had excellent care, went over everything with me, confirming who I was and what I was there for and got me comfy and relaxed for surgery.
In operating room everyone was very nice and I was very confident I had a good team with me, again went over what I was there for confirmed who I was, very thorough. Post op again was very nice had me comfy and awake for about 20-30 minutes before returning me to my room. Was in the hospital for a total of 3 days. The nurse/tech teams were amazing, quick to see you when needed, comforting and caring.
They were absolute gems. The food wasn't bad either and they have a lot of options if you have a regular diet, so if you're there a little longer, that's a plus. Before I was discharged they went over follow up thoroughly so I knew the game plan and so far recovery has been pretty good! One thing I would advise, if you're getting surgery, be sure to take out all piercings while you are still in your room with your stuff prior to pre op.
Mine went missing after returning me to my room and doing the bed exchange so I believe they're in linens. That did not change my views on this hospital at all though, things happen and that didn't leave a negative impact on the experience at all. I would recommend anyone I know to this ER, even if it's a 30-45 minute drive, if it's something that can wait that amount of time I would definitely make that drive.

The Surgeon, Doctors, Nurses and Helpers Exceeded my expectations. From the Emergency Room, Cat Scanning, prep, rushing me into immediate Surgery, EVERY SINGLE staff person was EXTREMELY nice to me, complimentary, giving, thoughtful with words and some even prayed with me! First Surgery EVER (hopefully last) and helped me from not crying the whole time. THANK YOU EVERYONE! (The Girl with Beautiful Unicorn Hair ) Vanessa

My son was admitted via the ER on 5 17 22. The ER staff was very attentive despite being overwhelmed by the huge number of patients. We eventually got a room and the nurses in the pediatric ward, Laurel from night shift, and Christine on days are super attentive, supportive and caring. At this point we are just waiting for the GI doctors to give us a diagnosis and a treatment option for my son's illness. On 5-20- 22 no results have been determined.

The worst hospital ever took my friend to the walk in he had a fever of 101.4. They did a chest X-rays and blood work. Left with anti went to breakfast then got a call to go to er his white cell count was high.went to SMH at 1:30 waiting till 6pm till we went to see a doctor they took blood again chest X-rays again when I told them that he already had this done they told me the want there own.
They took tubes of blood and urine again.at 8pm they told me they were admitting him I asked what is wrong with him he has a infection in his body we will run some more test I am not a doctor but when you have high white cell count that means you have an infection in your body.so after7hours that was my answer

I was on vacation and got a horrible stomach flu. After becoming quite dehydrated and at 28 weeks pregnant, I went to the OB ER unit, and it was a great experience. I had Leslie as a nurse, and she was so friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend the OB unit at this hospital. Thank you for your help!

I was a patient in the orthopedic center of this hospital. It was the first major surgery I had ever had and the second time I was ever admitted to a hospital. I received the best care in the ward. They are professional, compassionate, and very accommodating. I would like to recognize the following staff members. Tabitha in recovery room after my surgery.
Night nurse Diana Night MST Demitrius Day nurses Stephanie, Sara, Cat, Victoria, Day MST Keisha, Elizabeth and Sidney. I hope I didn't miss anyone and your hospital can be proud of the staff in orthopedics. I would recommend your facility to anyone who is considering orthopedic surgery.

I had back surgery just one week ago. I have had numerous surgeries in my life, however, this hospital and staff were the BEST by far! I felt valued and deeply cared for as a patient. Dr. Nguyen was AMAZING. He has a God given talent as a spine surgeon! I'd like to publicly recognize a few dedicated staff members in Orthopedics. Tiffany RN Paige. RN Heather RN Anthony John

My deaf BFF and I were in the emergency department for treatment. What a nightmare! All I can say is all the construction they are doing will not change the absolute deplorable treatment to which we were subjected. 6 hours in the exam room and NOT ONE PERSON CAME IN TO CHECK OUR STATUS. Pushed the call button 3 separate times & got a voice on the speaker saying someone would be right in. However, no one did! Never, ever will I go there again. So, glad I live in over 1,000 miles away with much better local options with which to find help. The only saving grace was the nurse, Jeff, who gave amazingly painless injections.

My mom & her husband were in a terrible car accident and air lifted to SMH. Both were in CCU initially, then my mom was moved to a regular room, and then to the attached Rehabilitation Pavilion. The staff has been amazing. The campus is quite large and every time I was lost not only was I offered directions, but often was escorted where I needed to go. The nurses and PT/OT/ST are the most caring and professional that I have encountered at any hospital. I hope the staff here knows how much they are appreciated.

First, the good: Fantastic staff of valet drivers, administrative assistants, security, on- floor care people, phlebotomy, doctors, nurses, caretakers, housekeeping. Everyone is extremely nice, patient, thorough, understanding. Other than my radiology experience, I felt like I was in very good hands with people who want to do all they can to help and ease discomfort.
I also appreciated how strictly mask-wearing was enforced for everyone, without exception. The bad: Very clearly BADLY understaffed and without ample supply! The staff that is there is great, but there are not enough staff or equipment! I arrived in the ER at 10am in a lot of pain. It took four hours to get me taken in for radiology and then to a doctor, the whole time I was in miserable agony, and it's not like no one wanted to help me or wanted to speed up the process.
It was simply that there are not enough people on the floor, in any given department, to help. Although the inside of the hospital was clean, the waiting lobby is disgusting. The floor is filthy and there is not enough space to seat people within CDC COVID-19 precautions. The CT scan room didn't have enough lead covers to cover almost anything. I got a thyroid cover and was otherwise completely exposed, even though I only needed a lower abdominal/ pelvic scan.
They told me that x-ray is using all the radiation covers right now and sent me through with only a small thyroid cover. I was in so much pain that even though I expressed that I want those covers, I didn't have the physical or psychological energy to fight for my right to minimize radiation exposure. This is unacceptable.

Went to the SMH Urgent Care and were there two hours waiting for a piece of paper. Now sent to SMH ER. this is for stitches in a finger. Still here after 2 1/2 hours and still 5 people (or more) ahead of us. Will not go to Urgent Care again unless it is for a sniffle. Will avoid the ER at all costs. Will try Doctors Hospital next. Up to 4 hour wait now.

The ER needs to be more patient friendly. They need to be more human. I was in the ER 6 months ago in pain and they didn't care. The nurse kept telling me that a doctor needed to see me before they could give me something for the pain. Four hours later, the nurse came in to tell me the doctor authorized pain medication ( a doctor who didn't see me until after they gave me the pain medication). Today, I'm here with my mother in law.
She's a cancer patient, in pain, vomiting and 5 hours later, nobody has seen her yet. I understand COVID is an issue, but they should have more doctors and a staff with better bed manners.

I had the best of care at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The staff in the orthopedics unit are all talented professionals and did their best to find out what was wrong with me. After 15 days in the hospital things became very blurry and some days are completely lost from my mind. I have never been challenged with anything harder in my 50 years. I have now completed 3 of 42 treatments to kill the bacteria that invaded my spine.
I am going to leave a review later about how great of a cheeseburger they have! No joke. Delicious ALL STAR LINE-UP Allie, Alexis, Kasey, Will, Amity, Cat, Cathie, Karen, John and Anthony, Merlyn, Vlaney, Casey, Demetrius, Stella and (Lisa in the kitchen) P. S. Infection Disease Associates and Dr. Mercado as well as the orthopedic team saved my life! I will walk again with no assistance!

They dont manage pain at all. I have severe UC flare with entire large intestine inflamed and blood dripping from my rear and they give a oxy 10 pill every 4 hours. I've been keeled over in the bathroom 3 times in an hour and nothing. I'm not eating because I know it's to hurt. I've been on prednisone for over a month, had a remicade treatment, and they still won't manage my pain. It's a joke. looking forward to losing rven more weight and blood and waking up in middle of the night To to bleed in pain. Wth man. mackenzie thanks for your reply.
I am currently here, I've been up just about everyone's rear about getting some kind of legit pain management when I'm literally only leaking blood. nothing. your patient advocate line is only open Monday through Friday. So I'm screwed till Monday. my nurse has contacted doctor twice and got no reply. what in the world goes on here.! I'm literally leaving bloody stool in the toilet and calling in then nurse while I'm keeled over in pain.
The only reason I've been given is "you won't go home with Dilaudid" I've been here almost a week and no one knows when I'm going home!' manage my pain! Jesus. I have been battling this flare on my own for 1.5 months and I finally caved and came to a hospital for help, my symptoms have not improved, and you can only half manage my pain? Really?

My doctor sent me for a CT scan at "SMH". I scheduled it and arrived on time to find that my co-pay for the test was over $800. They said that someone had called me to let me know what my responsibility would be however I never received the call. When they checked it turned out they had called the wrong number and left a message on some random person's voicemail which may in fact be a HIPAA violation.
I called my doctor and had them move the test to Intercoastal Medical Group. The same test with their Radiology department was only $269. Sarasota Memorial Hospital is a rip off and clearly has some real buffoons working with your private medical data. Do yourself a favor and skip the SMH healthcare system. It's a joke.

I was in an accident and I have be sitting in my room in extreme pain for the past 36 hours. It amazes me that patient comfort and assessing patients is not something SMH cares about. I haven't seen a doctor since arriving to discuss my pain issue. I just get put on the list of everyone with pain gets "this and this" regardless of what level pain they are.
I haven't slept and have been shaking with pain since arriving. How does that help me heal? I feel like I am a burden having to call the nurse on the dot every 4 hours for my pain meds that only lasts and hour! I'm so miserable.
