Very disappointing after we had spent lots time getting our elderly parents to enroll. We did intake interview, home visit by a nurse and intake person, physician assessment and onsite visit. Basically they want us to sign over my parents' Medicare and Medi-Cal to On Lok, and in return, they said they will provide comprehensive care including home care, physical therapy, medical and dental and optical care ass well as transportation to and back from medical appointments etc.
All sounds great, but I was always curious about their motive. Then the care team's recommendation comes, it was totally inadequate. After all that promises, they proposed home care 1 hour per week to replace my parents' current 36 hours weekly home care from IHSS. Its very deceiving if you consider one hour per week visit as home care! As driving my parents to medical appointment, it means the driver will take them to the clinic or hospital, sign them in, and leave.
My parents have to call them later to meet the driver at an agreed location for pickup. There is no way my elderly parents can do that. After we went over their proposal, I got to know that On Lok wants you sign over your Medicare and Medi-Cal, so On Lok could get payment from the government for "comprehensive" care from On Lok, then they choke down the service to a minimum they would give you, and make a profit off you.
This is very very deceiving and very disappointing since I thought they are in there to provide good service to elderly citizens. Be aware to sign off your Medicare and Medi-Cal, and in return, they give you Very Very little service. You would regret it. Be very careful to go over their care plan proposal, it is Very Very stingy and they are making money off you. If you have other options, do not go with On Lok.
