Services
Dr. Stevens performs complicated eye surgery which includes Cataracts, Glaucoma, and other procedures. He is well known in Richmond and throughout Virginia for Corneal Transplantation. In 2001, Dr. Stevens was the first in Virginia to perform a new type of corneal transplantation - replacing just the back layer of the cornea.
The most common type of cataract is related to aging. How quickly a cataract develops varies among individuals and may be different in each of the two eyes. Surgery is the only way a cataract can be removed. However, if you're not bothered by your cataract, surgery may not be necessary at this time, but should be re-evaluated at subsequent office visits.
Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 60 and yet can often be prevented with early detection and treatment. Damage to the optic nerve with subsequent blindness occurs when fluid builds up in the front part of your eye, increasing the pressure that causes permanent blindness.
Everyone from reception, nurses, anesthesiologist, operating room staff and Dr. Stevens made me feel very comfortable and very important to them. I could not have asked for or received better treatment. All of the staff were excellent. Stony Point Surgery Center is a professional facility that seems to run like clock work, with attentive, well-trained staff.
