Our staff professionals are special education trained, IEP proficient, and licensed in the State of Michigan.

The Detroit Institute for Children currently serves more than 5,000 children with special needs in schools, Head Start, and Early Intervention programs throughout Detroit and Southeastern Michigan. The DIC provides speech language pathology, occupational therapies, social work, psychological services and special education consulting.

Our Speech therapists provide consultations, evaluation, and therapy sessions to aid children improve their speech and language skills.
Our enrichment programs and community workshops offer great opportunities for parent-child interaction. For over 100 years, "Community" has remained one of DIC's core values and has served as a beacon toward fulfilling our mission of empowering children. The Learning, Enrichment, and Achievement Programs (LEAP) consist of four components mentioned below and are offered throughout the year for families and children with special needs, ranging from early childhood through 12th grade.A parent-child playgroup is a gathering of similarly aged children and their parents (caregivers).
