Up until this year, I was very happy with the Silverstein Institute, going there since moving to Florida 7 years ago. I primarily go to the LWR office for regular ear wax cleanings, unless I need to get a hearing test. Then I go to the Sarasota office. When I went for my cleaning back in March 2022, I didn't know until I got there that Dr. Abdo was on vacation.
The PA was able to take care of me, and that was fine. While there we set up my annual hearing test and followup visit with Dr. Abdo for June 9, 2022 at the Sarasota office. I got the appointment cards and went on my merry way. Today I drove down to the Sarasota office for my appointments, only to find out they had no record of any appointments! I had my appointment cards with me as proof that appointments had been made, but obviously not put into the system.
And the punchline is that Dr. Abdo was on vacation.again! This is unacceptable! I blame the staff at the LWR office for this ineptitude. A waste of my time and my $ gasoline!

Dr Abdo $50 copay to get treated like I'm not worth the five minutes that he rudely spent with me. Literally did not even try to show any concern whatsoever about the condition of my deteriorating health issues. Really hoping and praying I don't have head and neck cancer that has metastasized to any parts of my body. I will not go down without a fight!

My primary care physician sent me to the ER on Tuesday evening to have a cat scan done on my sinuses. Dr. Nayak was on call and spoke with the ER physician after reviewing the scan results. My doctor planned for me to see an ENT on Friday. Dr. Nayak did not feel I could wait and instructed the ER staff to have me call the office to be seen Wednesday. Calls went to voicemail so I left a message.
Several hours later I called and selected the option to speak with a nurse. Danielle picked up and transferred me to the voice mail after hearing about my situation. I did finally receive a call on Thursday afternoon. My physician had her assistant contact the Silverstein office and then called herself when the staff member was unable to make progress with the staff. Finally, my doctor was able to schedule an appointment on Friday.
It is interesting that even when a staff doctor from the Silverstein Institute states a patient needs to be seen stat that there are so many hurdles to jump over in order to get an appointment. Even with Dr. Nayak's concern about my condition it required a physician to intervene for the practice staff to schedule an appointment and I'm hoping this is not reflective of the type of care given.

Friendly professional admission process. Timely interview by support personnel. Dr. Silverstein was direct, communications went very well. Initial effort to smooth the dizziness seemed to help but have more visits to see if other issues identified. I had a difficult time with the Vestibular Rehabilitation. Despite my communicating prior to the therapy using machines for balance problems the process required spinning the chair I was sitting in while some appliance captured my eyes to help understand my Vertigo issues.
There was another process blowing cooling air and warming air to capture the reaction with another appliance. The warm - hot air was way to hot for me. I said to the attendant it was too hot and was burning. She just a few more seconds. When I arrived at home I was very dizzy sick and threw up three times. I had to quit the efforts to correct my dizziness and not return to the Institute.

Avoid this place. Scammed me $1000 for an ear infection. I came in with an ear infection, very basic issue. They didn't seem to know the problem and kept asking me to come in the next day, and the next day, and the next day. On the second day, they conducted a fancy hearing test. After the third day with no answer or progress, just a bunch of hmmmmmm's, they wanted me to come in again and do some surgery for no reason but to reduce the pain (which had gone away by then), making me sign a form to indicate that I would cover it (at least $3,000).
At this point I noticed that something was fishy, so I declined and never went to them again. Later, I got the medical bill and they charged me like crazy - every 2 minute check from the doctor was around $300, even though he pretended to be confused and not know what was wrong with me. They even had another junior physician check me out, she did just a basic check in my ear and rung a bell outside my ear, confused, she pulled in the senior physician, he was also confused.
I think that alone cost me $600. The hearing test - which I didn't need - was $500+. The total bill was over $1000 for an ear infection that they acted confused about and ultimately gave me some antibiotics for. Something I could have easily done with a General Practitioner or Nurse Practitioner. From what I saw, 95% of the patients are senior citizens, coming in with their health plans.
The front desk staff are very nice and make these people feel special. But, the level of competence in the healthcare was non-existent. To ask me to come in 4 times, plus a fancy hearing test, plus a $3k surgery just because of an ear infection? That's crazy. I can't help but think that this practice is scamming the older people - who may not know any better - for their money.

I felt my phone appointment with Dr. Nayak and nurse went well. The doctor was clear and helpful. I was also pleased with the notification I received prior to the call. I was not happy with the help I received from his office. I was disconnected when they were transferring me to the medical records department. Couldn't get through again.

Dr. John Massey is the most effective audiologist I have ever seen. I have a severe atypical hearing loss that has never been fully corrected even after buying a number of sets of hearing aids and working with many different audiologists. In setting up the aids, Dr. Massey measured the performance of the devices he recommended and made numerous adjustments to actually compensate for my unique loss.
In retrospect, my past experience was simply trial and error. Until now, I was convinced I would never be able to engage in normal conversation. My current ability to recognize words is beyond my expectation. Thank you Dr. Massey!

A friend of mine recommended that I make an appointment with Dr Silverstein because my hearing is so impaired. I also have balance issues. Silverstein Institute test results confirmed my dilemma and I am now having balance therapy sessions to improve my life. Dr Silverstein and every member of the Institute staff are extremely professional, helpful, friendly and very understanding. Even if you can't hear, you will be heard at Silverstein Institute!
