I've been a patient with Dr. Avila since the first day he took over Dr. Cadoff's practice, 15+ years ago. Over the years, his business practice has deteriorated (business model and sanitation). It has become the norm to over book patients, (wait time has been 50-80+ minutes) and the office is disgustingly third world. The vinyl floors are worn, dust is everywhere, the equipment is dirty, just disgusting! Very smart man, but he needs better management!

My husband had a vasectomy performed in October of 2019. Dr. Avila and his nurse Maria were amazing! Dr. Avila was kind and courteous, very informative and great at answering any questions we had. Maria contacted us even after they were closed to let us know about lab results and any other questions, even scheduling. So glad we chose Dr. Avila for our family planning needs.

Terrible. First time we were here we waiting 90 minutes then they came in and told us it would be another couple hours as he was behind. We left and came back and were seen 3.5 hours after our appointment. We are here again today and after waiting 20 minutes were were told we had two ahead of us. 30 minutes later they said two ahead of us. They just came in after 90 minutes and there are two ahead of us. Best case he is 2 hours behind on any given day so plan accordingly.

For anyone considering this office I would recommend looking elsewhere. My husband saw Dr. Avila for fertility issues. To try and condense our review, I will provide an extremely condensed list of issues. When we first started seeing Dr. Avila, we had several issues with being able to contact Dr. Avila's nurse to receive testing results. After a few visits, Dr. Avila recommended that my husband have a procedure completed which is similar to a prostate biopsy.
We arrived on the date of the procedure, after an hour wait in the office my husband was called back to begin. The nurse started the process and asked if he had taken the antibiotics for the procedure. My husband was never prescribed any antibiotics or advised they were necessary when the procedure was scheduled. We came back the next day after the taking the necessary antibiotics for the procedure.
After it was completed, Dr. Avila advised us that he could not determine the reason for our issues and recommended IVF with semen extraction (that Dr. Avila would perform). We had several question on why we would need to go to such an extreme, he was unable to provide adequate answers. I wish I could say those were our only issues, that was just the start. 4 days following the procedure my husband came down with a fever. Again, to try and condense this post, I will fast forward to the next day.
We had to call an ambulance to rush him to the hospital, which we later found out he had sepsis. The sepsis was a result of the procedure Dr. Avila performed. The infection started in the testicles and made its way to his bloodstream. We are currently working with a new doctor to determine if there is permanent damage to his fertility due to the testicular infection.
Our journey to conceive has been adversely affected by Dr. Avila and his office. I hope no one else has to experience what we have been through. I have called Dr. Avila's office manager, Leonor, and left multiple voicemails and have received no calls back. The main reason for this review is to warn the public of the services received from this doctor and to request a simple call back from Dr. Avila or his office manager. Dr. Avila please reach out to me for the best contact information ASAP.

Dr. Avila is a very good doctor I am very happy I discovered him. What I am not happy with is the wait times. I have been here twice and both times I had to wait almost an hour past my appointment. Seems like they have a scheduling issue there and not sure they will make any improvements. Front office staff blames surgeries and phone calls on the delays. I do like Dr. Avila and do recommend him, but if you decide to see him expect to wait past your scheduled appointment.

I strongly believe Dr. Avila remembers me from visit to visit. My medical history is always on point and he cross references with me when he's in question. Dr Avila provided us care which is helping us start our family. We already had friends ask who our doctor was because of our results. I'd recommend Dr Avila to anyone. Sure the front desk staff could be better, but it always gets worked out.

Dr. Avila is very good, but the office staff is either overbooked or understaffed, resulting in a 15 minute or more hold time each time I call. Once you enter the office, the wait isn't so bad. Unfortunately, the notes that were sent to my insurance company were inaccurate, so the insurance refused to renew a necessary prescription. I was told I needed to contact the Ironwood staff to have them re-submit more accurate notes and they submitted the same notes as before!
I was then asked to fax a copy of the notes to Ironwood (not sure why), then they would be corrected and resubmitted to the insurance company. I NEVER heard back from Ironwood.

We are here at Dr. Desiderio Avila office at Ironwood and every time (5+) we have an appointment we wait 60-90 minutes over the appointment time. We even tried talking to them to check in and come later but some medical professional office do not care about their patient's time. Frustrating. Today there was a man in pain, urinalysis bag, walker, going up to reception to say he was waiting long time and in pain several times.
Finally after another 30 minutes he told them he has to leave because he needed help and will reschedule. Really? Inexcusable. Horrible office management with no consideration. #desiderioavila #noconsideration #medicalnightmares

Worst office I've ever been to. Over an hr wait for an appt just to wait over a month for results they still don't have. Office staff a bunch of teens with bad attitudes. Made multiple requests for the Dr. To call or have. Manager follow up. Nothing. Will be switching offices after the results finally come in probably in another month when someone actually see calls to check on them.
Such a horrible experience that I've asked multiple times to have corrected so guess it comes to losing another pt. Hope your busy schedule and 0 empathy for patients was worth it.

Dr. Avila removed my left kidney which had a large cancerous tumor. I was hospitalized 36 hours, back at work 10 days later. My incisions are minimal. Three years later I'm still cancer free and attribute this to Dr. Avila. My mother wasn't as fortunate having the same problem with her surgery performed at Mayo. I highly recommend Dr. Avila.
