Type 2 diabetes, also called adult-onset diabetes because it typically occurs in adults, is by far the most common form of diabetes. It is a metabolic disorder, not an autoimmune disease. People with type 2 diabetes either do not make enough insulin or their body doesn't use it efficiently. While many cases of type 2 diabetes may be prevented, it remains the leading cause of diabetes-related complications. We will help you understand your condition and teach you how you can lower your blood sugar levels with weight loss, exercise, and dietary changes.
It is also important to eat healthy foods such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, including foods that are high in fiber and low in added sugars. You should eliminate using table salt. The DASH diet has helpful food guidelines for people with high blood pressure. It is important to take all of your medications as directed, even if you feel fine.
You should make lifestyle changes to reduce the risk factors that you can control. This includes not smoking, losing weight, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and eating a nutritious diet of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and high-fiber foods. Exercise and healthy foods can help raise HDL and lower LDL.

Receptionists here are incapable of doing their jobs. They don't know how to book an appointment as requested. Then they book you with a LNP instead of the doctor requested. on top of that, they call you to confirm appointment a day before but when you get to your appointment, they say it's at a later time because you wanted to see Dr Alford. This is ridiculous. I am now seeking a new Dr since these receptionists are unable to do a simple task.

I made an appointment on Tuesday, for 2:45 pm on Thursday afternoon. I received a call at 2:15 Thursday letting me know that my appointment needs to be a tel-medicine appointment (keep in mind, I have taken the afternoon off work and my husband has left work early to come watch kids). Last month I had COVID and developed double pneumonia. I have since tested negative but am still having pneumonia symptoms so this appointment was for a follow up as ER Dr. suggested.
I explained to the lady on the phone I felt a tel-medicine visit wouldn't be beneficial as I need the DR to listen to my lungs. She says since I still have COVID symptoms, I am not allowed in the office. I ask to speak to the Manger and after spending 5 mins on hold she transfers me to the medical assistant. She keeps pushing the tel-medicine visit to which I do not accept.
I understand policies, but they never should have let me make the appointment in the first place. I was upfront and told them my history to which they asked for me to bring my records/discharge papers from the ER. So unprofessional and what a waste of time!

The wait here is out-of-control, even if you have an appointment they are never on time! They never apologize about running late either, it's second nature to the staff at this point. Dr. Alford is great but I haven't seen him in years, too many patients. Urgent clinics are your best bet for colds, minor illnesses.

Honestly I've been going here 3 years and My doctor wouldn't know my name if he saw me without a chart in his hand. Also, NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE, ever. I have been on the same medication for 8 years. I understand having to have an appointment every 3 months for refills (even though no other office has required that. whatever) but when I call and leave a voicemail about refilling my prescription, then show up and they refuse until I have an appointment when I wasted 30 minutes driving out there and won't even fill my prescription to get me by until my appointment. yeah I'm done lol all this place cares about is your money.

I've been coming here for about 4 years. I seen dr Dina white she's really nice but rushes the visit. But I come to see Joy the nurse practitioner. I love her she's so nice, caring and she wants to actually help out. The only thing that I don't like is when I call to speak to a medical assistant in regards results or prescriptions they never answer the phone and don't return your call.

Dr. Alford and staff are great. I just changed my family Dr. just because of driving distance after we moved. My wife selected them for me after after she tried it and like their care. I was skeptical but I was really surprised by their care too. He went over all my medical history and then kept asking details. He then explained everything we were going to do to follow up just on out of range value from my blood work.
I have not waited more than 10 minutes outside. I even was late one day and almost lost my appt. They came back and said just wait a little bit and he will see you. This is one of the best medical offices I have been in Houston and/or Sugarland.

Dr. Alford and his staff are first rate. The wait time was very short. Dr. Alford took the time to explain everything and I never made me feel like I was just a number. His staff followed up with me the next day to make sure I was doing ok. I HIGHLY recommend Sweetwater Medical Associates and Dr. Alford.
