I was worried at first that I may not find a parking space but was very impressed by how convenient the parking structure was to getting to the clinic. And this is no small business by no means there are many people working behind the scenes that you don't see in the front. It was my first time I had visited a dermatology before. I felt the doctors and assistants were very professional and very easy to speak to about some not so easy to speak about issues. I felt very comfortable and would definitely refer friends and family to this practice.

They looked at my problematic acne areas and prescribed me pills and ointment right away. First ones made me feel so nauseas I couldn't even do anything and had to take them twice a day. When I let them know they changed the prescription for the antibiotic which I took along with probiotics for 2 weeks and the only difference I see is my messed up stomach, constant heartburn but no visual improvement of my condition. I would give 1 star but the doctor was really nice

5 stars for Dr. Lee but 1 star for the rude front desk. Will be going back to receive a procedure from the doctor as he is knowledgeable with a good bed side manner. I don't know if the front desk personal have been ill treated by previous clients but the front desk is the first impression of the office so they should really work on their attitudes. They could lose clients due to their off putting manners.

Dr Pelle is my favorite doctor ever, by a long shot. Smart, knowledgeable, determined. I've been a patient of hers for 10 years. The people here complaining that she's rude or that she has a bad bedside manner are mistaken. Recently, during a particularly bad bout of cystic acne, I went and saw Dr Pelle. When she came into the patient room, I started crying and confided that I was depressed from the bad acne.
A few days later, Dr Pelle personally called me to see how I was doing. I can't imagine a higher standard of care or a more concerned medical provider. I also see Dr Pelle for Botox. She is SO damn good at placement of the injections that she doesn't have to use very many units to get the job done. I once went to a med spa because the price per unit was significantly cheaper, but the results were crap.
I will never let anyone else put Botox in my face besides Dr Pelle. I've also had several laser resurfacing procedures to treat acne scarring with various providers at the office. The laser hurts, but the providers are all kind and tolerant of my tears hahaha.

Avoid this place! Front desk is clueless and rude. The manager "owner" is just as insolent and takes their side. They cant even tell you what their Dr's fee covers, just want your $215 upfront no matter what and then it is up to the Dr. to decide what that $215 covers. Manager recommended that if I don't like the way their office is run that I should go somewhere else. So I will! Smh.

I can't say enough good thing about Dr. Blake. I have been to multiple dermatologists and he is the most thorough. He uses the most up to date technology so he doesn't need to cut off every mole and scar you up. He is able to take a sample and send it off to a lab. I have recommended him to everyone who's asked. He's the best!

Monday, August 23: First visit to MedDerm Dermatology (referral from PCP) and was quite impressed with everything and everyone from my check-in to my actual examination. Dr. Doong was friendly, thorough, extremely knowledgeable and efficient. I had a couple of scrapes and a freezing of a mole with little to no pain at all! My appointment was at 8:00 am and left the office at 8:20 am. I wish all medical practices ran this efficiently!

I had a really positive experience at MedDerm and with Dr. Pelle. I had a concerning lesion/mark on my clavicle. I called for an appointment and they got me in in 2 days! My appointment was at 8:30 am. I arrived at 8:15 and was in the exam room by 8:20. The woman who asked my intake questions was friendly and thorough. Now, of course, I started doubting that this mark was anything and maybe I was making a big deal out of nothing.
But when Dr. Pelle arrived (maybe 10 minutes later) she said it was indeed something to check out! I also had a weird rash a few months back that I took a photo of and showed her. She took a look and brought up my chronic Lyme diagnosis, which I maybe mentioned to her 5 years ago or so. This makes it clear to me she took a good look at my chart before coming into the room (or she has an amazeballs memory!).
I really appreciate her taking that extra time to consider my unique health situation. She also brought up some new developments around chronic Lyme that I was unaware of. So she also is choosing to keep up with an illness that many still don't understand or take seriously. Lastly, she called me personally with my results (negative thank goodness) vs. an assistant or tech.
All around this was a great experience. I was considering changing dermatologists to one closer to me because I moved recently, but after this experience I'll take the extra time to get to Dr. Pelle. Thanks MedDerm and Dr. Pelle :).

I have been a patient of Dr. Pelles for over 10 years and have referred many people to her. I will never go back again! They moved offices and I went to the wrong elevators. I arrived 4 min past my appointment time. When I arrived there was two people in line infront of me. When it was my turn to check in they quickly took my copay and said she was running 15min late.
After 25min they called me to the front desk and said that because I was late they could not see me. WHAT? I said I was at most 4 min late an was told oh well sorry. I have never been so shocked. I always have to wait at least 30min because she always runs behind. I have never been late myself and the fact that I was at most 4 min late is absurd to me. I will never be back. Extremely rude and unaccommodating.

Jay Blake is hands down the most personable NP that I've had the pleasure of scheduling with in any specialty -- ever. I wholeheartedly mean it when I say that I look forward to my consults. He's kind, funny, energetic, and all around just a good person. On several occasions, Jay has recalled, in detail, stories/discussions that we shared from prior visits (even when those visits are 6+ months apart).
Personal traits aside, he's also quite knowledgeable in his field. My family has a history of melanoma and I wouldn't want to place my trust in anybody else to help monitor and stay ahead of that situation for myself. Thank you!

Update: Dr. Pelle personally called me after my last review and prescribed me a cream to help with the irritation (it really helped) and to schedule more patch testing for me so I could get re-tested for gold, cobalt, copper, Iron and one other metal. She was there for both of my readings and explained everything in great detail. She also printed out a lot of helpful information for me regarding my allergies. Dr. Pelle was able to clear up the confusion I had with the previous readings with Dr. Lee and Dr. Blake (turns out I am allergic to gold and several others that weren't recorded the first time) and she sent the new results to my surgeon. Dr. Pelle is extremely knowledgeable and I appreciate her reaching out to me and wanting to help make sure everything is 100% correct for my surgery, I have the utmost confidence in her and I am grateful that I can now safely proceed with surgery (God willing).

I saw Dr. Lee today. I was very impressed by his knowledge and skill. I had to get multiple injections for some keloid scars. Administration of the injections was very gentle. he listened to all my concerns and had an excellent bedside manner. I highly recommend and will return as needed for my conditions.

Came here for a suspicious looking mole that was rough and bleeding with uneven borders. I have a ton of miles and this was unlike any of them. The doctor I saw (don't remember his name) took one look at it and said it was nothing and an inflammatory response of my body. I went to another dermatologist at a different clinic for a second opinion and she immediately said "oh this is basal cell" and removed it.
It was textbook in appearance. How the doctor at this office didn't recognize something as simple as that is concerning. Needless to say-will not be returning here or recommend it in any way.

I love Dr. Michael Lee! I wanted to remove my freckles and spots on my face, so I called in and made an appointment. The whole process took less than 15 mins and my experience was really great. It didn't hurt as much, and I'm definitely coming back again in the future. The staffs and Dr. Lee were very attentive and friendly. Thank you so much Dr. Lee!

I went in for red bumps on my arms that I've had since I was a kid, and then some acne on my face last year. I was getting married and wanted to clear them up. As the doctor was examining, I said "I don't know if gluten has anything to do with it but it seems to get worse when I have gluten". The doctor sort of rolled his eyes and scoffed and said "Everyone blames everything on GLUTEN".
The next month I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, so it was DEFINITELY because of gluten, and now that I've cut it out, my arms are almost completely smooth. So I just thought it was annoying to completely write it off and not look into it further. Won't be going back.

Went in on June 4th for a small biopsy. 2 weeks later no results. I called, to which they informed me my results were ready and the doctor would call back shortly. Few days later still no call back. I understand that it's just another test for you guys but getting those results are important to me as a patient. Seems rather difficult to just get my results. Won't be returning

I unfortunately have to echo some of the poor reviews on here. My appointments have always been mildly awkward, waiting for such a long time to be seen and then when the derm finally comes in, it's over so quick and there's never been enough time to address all concerns, I always feel like I have to pick the most important one. Between my husband and I, when we do address concerns they just quickly throw some medication at you. It's always felt a little impersonal. I've had issues with their billing department as well, I had two moles removed in one apt and was charged 50$ for one and 150$ for the second, so 200$ total and they refused to explain why the difference and hung up on me when I pressed for more information.
I also asked why I wasn't told I would be charged this amount during my appointment since I had an appointment the previous year removing a single mole and was never charged for that, the billing lady said I should have known better it's not their job to let us know. I found that kind of rude. I did give two stars because the derm assistant who comes in before the dr is always so kind and always asks about my toddler and shares photos of hers, that's the kind of personal touch I look for in healthcare.

Rather than sending a letter that may or may not get read or, most importantly, shared with their patients, I'm delivering it here. Dear Dr. Pelle and Dr. Blake, I've been a patient for about 10 years, primarily as a result of two periods of frustrating, embarrassing and chronic adult breakouts. I was given what I now understand are your go to diagnoses for unexplained skin issues--hormones and rosacea.
The first one was in my early 40s and you told me hormones were the cause and put me on a blood pressure medication (spiranolactone) and gave me some topical treatments. I was on the medication for many years. While it did mostly resolve the problem, I still had flare ups that I just lived with (in shame) because I was basically told there wasn't much else to be done. Then, menopause hit and the hormone issue (and diagnosis) disappeared.
I discontinued the spiranolactone and my skin was pretty stable for awhile. Then, about 1-1/2 years ago, my skin flared up with a vengeance once again. After several months of WTFs and over-the-counter attempts at self treatment, I came back to your office looking like a teenager. This time, the diagnosis was rosacea and maybe a reaction to parasites (more WTFs!) and I was prescribed two ghastly expensive creams that set me back several hundred dollars.
The "rosacea" raged on and I spent more money on topical treatments.all the while having a nagging feeling that there was something systemic going on. THANK GOD FOR GOOGLE. Apparently, in the medical world, it's pretty common knowledge that our skin is directly impacted by our gut. When you don't have the right balance in there, not only is your skin impacted, but so much more (your mood as well). Having been an avid traveler and essential oil consumer, I was definitely a candidate for a gut problem so I found a healthy gut diet to follow, which included fermented foods, probiotics, and digestive enzymes, and guess what? IN ONE WEEK MY SKIN WAS 80% BETTER. Now, a couple weeks later, it's about 98% clear.
When I told this story to my Scripps GP yesterday, she confirmed that the connection between the gut and skin has been known for years and she expressed serious disappointment that my dermatologist never even addressed this. NOT ONCE IN A DECADE. You get a two star from me because you and your staff are nice people but that's all I can do. I have lived with so much angst and shame for so many years of my adult life that you had the potential to totally eliminate if you weren't so lost in the Western way.medicate, medicate, medicate and don't bother looking for the cause.
I hope you read this and make BIG changes so you can truly help a significant number of your patients. UPDATE -- Regarding their comment below, I will repeat -- not ONCE in over a decade did ANYONE from the office (doctors or staff) ever discuss probiotics or diet with me. I was only given medications. It was my acupuncturist who brought it to my attention. (I have eaten an incredibly healthy diet for years, which is why I never suspected anything dietary. My gut issues were most likely a result of international travel and use of essential oils in my water.)

As a physician myself, I expect a certain level of competency and kindness from other doctors. This is my first ever yelp review, but I feel the need to make sure other patients are fully aware of what they are getting themselves into when scheduling an appointment with Dr. Michelle Pelle. I am still in shock at how poorly I was treated. From the moment she entered the room, she was rude, condescending, judgmental, and incompetent.
Her prescriptions were incorrect, she complained about having to fill out prior authorizations (which I do on a daily basis) to help with prescription coverage, and rushed through my exam. I ended up having to tell her what to prescribe me, and she still got the dosing wrong. All of my questions seemed insignificant and unimportant to her. I contacted the front desk (Samantha) and manager (Chris) who happens to be her husband, to inform them of my experience.
In an attempt to rectify the situation, Chris apologized for his wife's "off day" and refunded my visit. I do appreciate the apology, but after my experience I would never recommend Dr. Michelle Pelle to anyone I care about and I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future.

Dr. Mike is awesome. Super friendly and knowledgeable. I had a mole removed and the whole process was really quick. Everything was explained to me and Dr. Mike and the nurse made me feel very comfortable. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes and had no pain afterwards. Building and staff were really nice. I will be recommending MedDerm to my friends.

I have wanted to write this review for quite some time, but I have hesitated writing it because I don't want the word to get out about how wonderful this office is. I have been going here for about 3 years. I started with Dr. Jacob and followed him to Sharp when he left; however, his staff at Sharp doesn't compare to the staff at MedDerm.
When I came back to MedDerm, I was assigned to Dr. Blake, and I have to say that he is either the best doctor I have ever been to or one of the best doctors I have ever had. To start, he catered to my cowardice of the white-coat syndrome. At age 46, I have had some form of skin cancer four times, and it runs on both sides of my family. I was a devoted sun and tanning bed worshipper, and, although I have stopped my tanorexic-ways, my genetics have now cursed me.
In the last 36 years, I have had 11 moles taken off of my face, two Mohs surgeries on my face, and 15 moles taken off my body and extremities. I am a frequent flyer at the dermatologist office and should be a PSA for SPF. To attest to Dr. Blake's expertise and surgery skills, I have attached 2 pictures of my most recent Mohs surgery on my face.
One picture is the day after surgery, and the second picture is three weeks after surgery. I am relieved and pleased concerning my healing face. In addition to suspicious moles, I have acne and premature aging skin. In other words, my skin is a hot mess. As an older, middle-aged woman, this has completely destroyed my confidence. But alas, Dr Blake (and his staff) to the rescue.
One of my recent surgeries at MedDerm was a bit distressing for me, and I had a lot of anxiety leading up to it. Nevertheless, there was a nurse that I confided in, and she was kind enough to give me a hug! Where do you find that kind of compassion and service from a healthcare professional? Dr. Blake and his staff are courteous and kindhearted. I am grateful to have found this office; thanks to Dr. Blake and the staff for all that they do.

Pros: Friendly staff and doctor, clean office with bright decor. Con: Lack of communication from staff to patient (me) regarding extended wait times. I've been to MedDerm 3 times and have waited a total of 1.5 hours for all of my visits. Today, I was in the office to have 2 sutures removed. My appointment was at 8:30 a.m. and I arrived at 8:20 a.m.
After at least 10 people (6 of whom came in after me) were seen and some of them left, I asked the receptionist when I would be seen. She assured me I would be next and needless to say, I was not. I asked another receptionist when I would be seen and she said I was next. I was called in at 9:03 a.m. I was in my car by 9:11 a.m. It would have been great if a delay was communicated with me, especially since I was reassured that I was "only having sutures removed and would be in and out" by the receptionist who scheduled my appointment. Also, I was apparently supposed to have this follow-up appointment for suture removal scheduled prior to leaving the office once the procedure was done. 2 months ago, so this appointment was long overdue- this is something I asked about prior to leaving on the initial "surgery" day was told it was not necessary. Fortunately, I was concerned about the visible sutures and called in to schedule the follow-up for today. MedDerm Dermatolgy, please take this into consideration.
Communicate with your patients if you can't fulfill the promised appointment time and be more attentive. Interestingly enough, I was about to press "post" on this review while at another follow-up Dr. appointment and a staff member came out and announced to all patients that the Dr. is running 20 minutes behind.

Dr. Pelly whom I see and Dr. Blake whom my husband sees are excellent. We trust both of them and have had melanoma and other skin problems. Highly professional in all that they do. Clear explanations, careful listening, assurance you have all the information to make an informed decision, thorough exams, and highly skilled treatments make them outstanding doctors. We would not see any other dermatologist.

Having recently moved to SD from the D.C. area, I needed a dermatologist for an annual visit. I'd noted that Dr. Pelle was highly recommended and therefore decided to see her. She was excellent -- very thorough, spending enough time with me (something my derm in D.C. did not do), explaining everything very clearly and making several helpful preventative medicine suggestions (again, something my derm in D.C. didn't do). I recommend Dr. Pelle wholeheartedly.

Dr. Pelle is an excellent dermatologist and seems to stay up to date on research relating to many skin issues. She evaluates treatment options based on a variety of factors and helped me make choices for treatment that were based on a thorough understanding of my medical history. I really appreciate her approach and her staff's professionalism.
