The New England Ophthalmological Society (NEOS) is the second oldest American medical specialty society in continuous existence. Founded in 1884, the society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study and advancement of ophthalmology. Now well into its second century of existence, NEOS has had the good fortune to count among its members some of the brightest and most influential leaders in ophthalmology. Today as in the past, NEOS remains committed to educating its members to ensure continuing high standards of ophthalmic care in New England.
Services
The Fund's dual purpose is to ensure the continuing education of New England ophthalmologists and to promote public awareness of ophthalmology. The Educational Endowment Fund is supported by members of the Society, exhibitors and the public. Please consider contributing to the Fund whenever you wish to honor friends, family members, colleagues or teachers, past and present.
The Townsend Acts were deemed "obviously unconstitutional" because the colonies had no direct representation in Parliament. The circular letter exhorted the other 12 Assemblies to join Massachusetts in petitioning George III to exert his influence on Parliament to repeal the Townsend Acts. The Townsend Acts provided for import taxes initially on most imports.
An Ophthalmologist, or Eye MD, is a doctor of medicine or an osteopathic doctor who specializes in the medical and surgical care of the eye. Ophthalmologists are specially trained to provide the full spectrum of eye care, from performing complex microsurgery, to diagnosing and treating eye diseases and condition, to prescribing glasses and contact lenses.
Our old logo (the gold coin with the 6 New England states) had been used for decades and its digital resolution was poor. In 2014, the NEOS board decided to change our logo. The new design was selected from a number of others. It was created by Aris Thanos, an artistically gifted ophthalmology resident then at Massachusettes Eye and Ear Infirmary.
