Please pray that you never have to go to the Wake Orthopaedics Urgent Care - Kildaire location on a weekend. Unfortunately, my recent experience at this location was a disaster. I took my son there to get treated for a shoulder injury and after X-rays were taken, during the diagnosis discussion, the physician's assistant overlooked a clearly visible bump near the injured shoulder - until I pointed it out.
She then proceeded to order a CT chest scan, but I later was told by the radiology technician that it was the wrong scan to order, especially for a young teen. Come to find out that this type of CT scan is for detecting lung cancer! The incompetence of this PA was astounding! Apparently her ability is most likely why she was assigned to the weekend shift where she could "treat" the least amount of patients.

After following up with Dr. Chappell regarding my rotator cuff injury, my most recent visit will definitely be my last. I had previously received a steroid injection with relief of my shoulder pain. Sadly, the pain worsened and I needed a repeat shoulder injection, as recommended by Dr. Chappell at my previous visit. When I came to the appointment, Dr. Chappell immediately refused to provide the steroid injection stating that "he won't do injections anymore" yet research published within the past two years shows that injections are not recommended if you plan to have surgery within the next 1-3 months (which I can't afford at this time due to the loss of my health insurance)!
When I then inquired about what to do with my pain that had gotten unbearable, he brushed me off and told me to come back when I can finally afford surgery. Of course, I did not appreciate this answer and inquired about pain medication. I am 60 years old, and Dr. Chappell then lectured on the Opioid Crisis (assuming I'm a drug seeker despite the fact I am not a fan of pain medications & only scheduled this visit for a steroid injection) and then left the room.
His medical assistant, Kristen, then came in and was thankfully kind enough to explain alternative medication options for pain. This visit was absolutely humiliating and I hope Dr. Chappell works on becoming a more personable physician in the future. It is absolutely unprofessional to accuse patients of being drug seekers when they only wanted a steroid injection.
He could have looked at the opioid database to see that I had not requested opioids from any other doctor. It is disappointing that I now need to find a new Orthopedist in preparation for when I can finally afford surgery. I just received a $200 invoice for that visit where he provided no steroid or any other assistance other than a lecture. His solution was to give me ibuprofen.

I'm literally flabbergasted by the level of care my husband received last week. He had been dealing with severe and worsening back pain for over a week to the point that he was unable to walk or put weight on his one leg and ended up at the ER. He was then given an xray and referred to WakeMed Ortho. We were able to get an appointment in a couple of days by driving to the Garner office from North Raleigh.
Upon arriving, we were put into a room, less than 5 minutes later Dr. Regan came in (having apparently reviewed the xray) and said that he was confident that we were dealing with a herniated disc, that most cases resolve itself within 6 weeks and that he should begin to see improvement within 2 weeks. We asked about pain management since he was unable to sit up, or work and could only stay comfortable laying down.
He told us he could give him a couple more days of pain meds but that was it. He said an MRI was absolutely not necessary despite my asking about the possibility of spinal injections to deal with his pain (which he said without an MRI it would be impossible to know where to inject - and yet somehow they didn't need an MRI?) Basically my stoic, high pain tolerance husband who was in excruciating pain was told to buck up, and that it would get better and no follow up was needed.
When we left, we decided that he would go to his primary care Dr. who he has been seeing for over 10 years. This Dr. got him in the same day, immediately ordered an MRI, gave him some meds to keep him comfortable (his blood pressure was extemely high due to the pain level) and said he would send him to a trusted Ortho collegue for evaluation once the MRI resoluts were back. Lo and behold, once the MRI results were back today, they showed that all 5 lumbar discs are bulging, and 2, are herniated, with possibly a 3rd as well. We're waiting to be seen at the new Ortho for evaluation and discussion on how to manage his pain since he still can't sit up, put weight on his leg, or work. I've never been to a Dr. where we felt more dismissed, devalued and frankly it almost felt to us like they thought he was simply there looking for pain meds.
I completely understand that Dr.s have to be very careful about prescribing pain meds in current culture, but to just dismiss someone in that much pain, without even examining him (he never even laid one finger on him, no one took his blood pressure, nothing) and then to say that no further testing was necessary and nothing further could be done is so absurd that I can't even wrap my head around it. Hell would freeze over before I would ever set foot in this practice, or recommend it to anyone for any reason.

I initially saw Dr. Jenkins for wrist and elbow pain. I had been using a cane for approximately 2 yrs with considerable weight bearing on that extremity. I had a work injury which later required me to use the cane. The wrist and elbow were not directly involved in the work injury and were not nor required to be under my separate work injury care. The Dr. knew this and ordered xrays of these parts, consulted with me about the findings and the Dr. ordered a CAT scan of my elbow.
He undertook treating both my wrist and elbow. After a 2nd visit discussing the results of the test/findings, it was agreed upon that an injection ( upon his offering ) would alleviate the pain. I was provided an injection to my elbow. The Dr. offered me to return in 3 months for a 2nd injection if I found the 1st one beneficial. I asked the Dr. if he felt the daily use of my cane could be exacerbating or aggravating the findings in my elbow scan.
I was given a vague, indirect answer to an honest legitimate question about the mechanics of my body and it's condition. Something I had the right to know. After 3 months I took the Dr. up on his offer for the 2nd injection and made that appointment. I was first screened by his assisting Dr. who asked me if I felt the 1st injection helped and what my current problems were that I was having. ( Obviously it helped, that's why I was there ).
All this to brief Dr. Jenkins before he himself actually saw me. There really was no reason for this. I wanted to continue treatment for my elbow. Upon speaking with Dr. Jenkins as his assistant remained in the room standing in the corner, arms folded in apparent unnecessary scrutiny of what I was relaying to the Dr, the assistant interrupted stating " you didn't tell me that a minute ago ", to which I replied, " this is inclusive of what I mentioned to you earlier.
It just wasn't touch on in particular at the time." I just didn't mention it then. I guess I should have remembered to state every single issue, question, and concern initially to this assistant in the 60 seconds he was with me first. Not doing so meant I was under suspicion in his eyes. Insulting for sure to me. It was interrogation like.
Not sincere medical care like. I repeated to Dr. Jenkins the 1st injection helped and I would like to receive the 2nd injection he offered me. The Dr told me he " isn't a big fan of injections because they're like a band aid and its only temporary ". ( Confusing. why provide one to begin with and offer me to return for a 2nd one then? ).
He suggested physical therapy. I expressed that my current physical therapist stated to me it would be a mute point to try to better my elbow via only therapy, as it was under a daily conflicting and compromising usage matter with the cane. Like trying to climb a greased pole. I was told to " give it time ". Although I was there under Dr. Jenkins' offer, made the appointment, my insurance provided payment to him, the Dr. wasn't sincere or interested in treating something on me that may unintentionally involve him in a work related injury.
Although the elbow wasn't being treated by work comp, he directed me to speak to my work comp case manager about it. As this elbow and wrist problem was not a direct work comp injury though, it had nothing that needed to be addressed with a work comp case manager. All of my accepted injuries were already being treated. I was just a man who was having elbow pain primarily while using a cane on a daily basis for so long. That's all it was.
I could tell he didn't want to be bothered. I left with no helpful offered injection, the results of his ordered CAT scan that he decided to initially treat me for and a painful elbow and wrist. He fore went treating me as needed even though he offered, due to his belief about potentially being involved in something. It's a shame for me or anyone to have been in that situation. Sadly but luckily, I had to seek out an interested and hopefully more caring Dr. to treat my elbow with him knowing all of the above.
I was able to do so. This new Dr had no issue with treating my elbow as it was the proper thing to do. I remain under his willing and professional care. My experience at WakeMed Ortho, showed me that this particular Dr and his assistant misplaced their sincerity of patient care. Or lack there of. That he would be willing to place his own unnecessary concerns, over allowable and proper patient care. Something for all to think about no matter what your circumstance is.

Dr. Chappell is the best ortho I've had - and I've had 3 with surgeries dating back 20 years now. He took a complex history and gave me a direct plan (with options) on how to best manage my condition and pain. Hard to beat someone who has been one of the team docs for the Lakers, Dodgers and Kings. Easy to talk to - yet direct, which is one of the best qualities I look for in a physician. Can't go wrong with Chappell.

We are early in the process of healing a fractured ankle. My accident was on a Sunday. Monday morning they called to set up a visit with Dr. Harris Thursday and scheduled surgery Friday. My Thursday appointment was for 8:10 and they saw me earlier than that time. It had been less than one week do it is too early to know how the surgery outcome. I do appreciate the professionalism shown so far.
Three week postop update. Surgery went as planned and Dr. Harris did a great job on the sutures. The recovery for this is very long so hard to tell what the end outcome will be. So far my expectations have been met, thank you Wake Ortho.

I saw Dr. Nwoko for a hand injury. He and his staff were AMAZING! I ultimately had surgery and it as well as the after care were exceptional. Absolutely no complaints! Now, I am having issues with my back and am not receiving the same service from Dr. Regan or his staff. I plan to discuss this with him at my next visit and hope things improve. Maybe my expectations are too high after my experience with Dr. Nwoko.

Dr woods has been great so far. The main problem is the office and no one ever answers the phone. It can ring up to 4 minutes before some one will pick up if they ever do. Obviously the office manager does not care because when asked she acted like she's never had this complaint before. I am going to start PT next week so will keep you informed on that part of the practice.

This practice is a disgrace. My husband was involved in a motorcycle accident, broke his leg and had surgery performed by Dr. Jenkins. Dr. Jenkins has no idea how to speak in laymans terms and I completely misunderstood my husband's condition. 4 days later he was seen by Dr. Wood. I'm not sure why Dr. Wood brought up treatment for a possible pending lawsuit but he did.
I was disgusted. He wanted MRI's performed on both my husband's knees and said once he got the results, a course of treatment would be formulated. His office has had the results for over a week and Dr. Wood has not called. We call and call and call. Most of the time the phone just rings and then we get disconnected. Once someone answered and when I explained to her the situation she felt really bad and told us Christy would call us back in the next 30 minutes. 2 hours later and no return call.
We left the house and missed the call. We then returned the call for two days, getting hung up on repeatedly and leaving messages when we could but never a return call. My husband has no idea when his stitches should be removed, what the recommended course of treatment is or when he should return to work. To add insult to injury, my husband is trying to get short term disability through his employer but this office is ignoring them too.
They don't return calls. They have not acknowleged receipt of the disability paperwork nor have they filled it out and returned it. My husband's job is at risk now. We went so far as to go to the office and all the gentlemen did was say he would email Christy to call by the end of the day but she never did. This so far has been a horrible experience for both of us. It's bad enough my husband is suffering physically but knowing his doctor doesn't care one iota about him is quite distressing to say the least. If you have a choice, find another practice.

Full disclosure. I have never actually been to this doctors office. That is indeed why I chose to give them 2 stars. I was looking for an Orthopedist to get my foot checked out and came across these guys here on Yelp. I called yesterday to make an appointment and was on hold for 5 minutes. Who knows how long it would have actually been if I didn't hang up.
Let me be clear, I was not on hold after speaking to an actual person. I was on hold after going through the prompts to make an appt. I called back a second time and this time, it rang about 15 times before I decided to hang up. Today I tried once more and again went through all of the prompts, only to be placed on hold. Are the doctors taking their own calls here, or is the receptionist THAT busy!? All I know is they lost out on a new patient, because I called somewhere else, they answered the phone and I made an appt.

This group has been taking care of mending my busted up limbs since early October. It hasn't been easy for anyone in this process. Dr's and trauma surgeons are not the gods we try to make them to be, they are human just like the rest of us and subject to making snap judgment calls based on the facts as they know them and the immediate circumstances at hand. There is still a long road to go down, more specialists to see etc, and this group is providing the best guidance and care they can under the circumstances.
