Wake Internal Medicine Consultants, Inc. (WIMC) is a professional corporation that grew out of the Raleigh Internal Medicine doctors practice of Dr. Thomas Umphlet. Dr. Umphlet began his practice in 1938 at the Cameron Apartments building in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a medical office and onsite lab.
Internal medicine doctors provide primary medical care for adults, including diagnosis and treatment of diseases and illnesses, routine care, and preventative medicine. Internal medicine doctors may be referred to as internists, general internists, or doctors of internal medicine. An internist attends medical school for four years and receives a minimum of three years of training in a hospital or clinic as an intern and resident. Upon completion of training, a doctor may earn board certification after rigorous testing and peer review.

I have great doctors here but communication with the practice sucks. Lately, each time I call there's maybe 48 people in the queue. If I choose to receive a "call back, " it can be a 40-minute wait for that return call. The Patient Portal is an option, but it has not been working properly in recent weeks. I can send my physicians messages but their replies are not reaching me.
I have reported this and nothing has changed. To their credit, nurses have tried to reach me by phone but they are seeing patients most of the day and can only make callbacks during 1 hour in the afternoon. This is an extremely frustrating situation. My advice to practice managers: Invest in reliable communication systems so patients can easily and effectively communicate with our physicians. Some patients work and cannot accept phone calls just whenever you're able to call back. A functioning and secure Patient Portal is a much better option.

Unfortunately I did arrive approximately 10 minutes late for my appointment & that set the stage for me feeling rushed throughout my visit. The doctor did take the time to answer my questions. The front desk check-in staff could tone their voices down a bit. The lab staff is efficient & personable, but there is very little privacy as you get blood drawn in an open room.
I can understand limited space, but would like them to at least figure out how to cover the names of patients who have signed in previously. I can see everyone's name before mine & of course everyone after me can see mine

I have been a patient for 20 years and have never had a bad experience with them. I can usually get an appointment pretty quickly for routine checkups or get in faster if the need occurs. The 2 Doctors I have seen on a regular basis have been pleasant and courteous and listened to my concerns. I have not had to wait for long periods of time while in the office to see the dr. I would recommend them if you're looking for a general practitioner.

The entire staff, from front desk to discharge, were courteous, professional and caring. Wendy, RN welcomed me at exactly the time of my appointment. Dr. Meier's exam and interview were direct to the point and thorough. His trademark welcome is "What have you done good for yourself today?" And he listens to your answer! At Wake Internal Medicine Consultants, you are treated as a special person, not as just a collection of medical problems. I have been a satisfied patient for almost 10 years, and will be for the foreseeable future.

I was referred to Dr. Levin to determine if I have exercise induced asthma. Dr. Levin was extremely knowledgeable and I feel like he actually listened to my concerns. He laid out all of my testing/treatment options and then gave his opinion on which ones would be best, but still gave me the option to choose. Overall a 10/10 experience.

Dr. Roger Israel and his staff are always concerned about my health. They do the best I can to answer any and all questions that I may have. They are very good to explain to me what is going on with my test results. I can count on them to keep an eye on me and to always be there when I need them. When I am in the office everyone is kind and courteous.
I don't have to spend a lot of time in the waiting room because they seem to allow plenty of time between patients. I like the fact that they have their own lab as well as their own urgent care. It is very convenient.

Dr. Mcdaniels and his nurse Jackie are amazing! So glad I found them. Great bedside manners. Truly listens and cares. Just a great down to earth doctor and it's so hard to come by anymore! I hope I get to keep him as our doctor for as long as he practices :) oh it's a family practice as well. Great with kids! I've been going here since 2020 when I was pregnant with my first. Now I have two and the excellent care continues :)

Dr. Dougherty has been my primary care physician since 2009. He is by far the best doctor I have ever had! He is personable, professional and always takes an interest in my health. The Wake Internal Medicine practice has always treated me in a friendly, efficient and professional manner. I would recommend this practice to anyone!
