Services
We realize seeing a Retina Specialist is unplanned, thus causing a patient to feel anxious. We do our best to make your visit to Retina of Coastal Carolina as comfortable and convenient as possible. Retina exams are involved. Therefore, we ask that you allow approximately 2-3 hours for your initial visit.
We make every effort to keep our payment process as simple as possible. Our billing specialists are familiar with most insurance plans and are happy to answer your questions. As a result of inaccurate benefits information being provided to our staff, it is recommended that you call your insurance company to verify the coverage for your visit.
Retinal Artery Occlusion occurs when the artery delivering blood to the retina is blocked, or occluded. Any occlusion may also be known as a "stroke" in the eye. Central Retinal Artery Occlusion (CRAO) refers to the closure of the central retinal artery and usually results in complete loss of vision in one eye.
The macula is the center part of the vision. It dictates the fine details of your vision. A normal macula anatomy is essential for good vision. As we age the gel in the back of the eye (vitreous) begins to separate from the retina. As it does so it can have abnormally strong connections with the macula.
