Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is a truly revolutionary advancement in medicine. The science behind this valuable technology is rather complicated and represents the intersection of theoretical physics and its practical application to image the human body. MRI scanners do not use X-rays or any other form of radiation.

Fir the second time in a row, the incredibly rude "ladies" at the front desk attempted to make me pay almost $500 for an MRI claiming this was a dedeuctible. Even after my insurance company CALLED THEM to explain that the MRI was not considered part of my deductible they refused to listen. I had forgotten that I had this experience with them a couple of years ago and had to have my insurance call them to resolve it.
This time I decided to cancel and ask for my money back- I don't want to give my money to these incredibly rude, ignorant people. I've had many MRI at Shields and its never been a problem. When I said that I wanted to cancel my appointment they said " Go ahead try the hospital, see how that works." I replied I'm going to Shields, who they then tried to discredit.
Even if the MRI had been part of my deductible, there was only $50 something dollars left on the deductible. So where did the $500 come from? You have to wonder- were these women scamming me?

I had a perfectly pleasant experience and I don't think this MRI center deserves the low reviews. The staff was pleasant and the MRI technician made jokes, played nice music, and made sure I was comfortable. Scheduling was easy, and they were understanding when I had to reschedule 3 times due to my insurance denying coverage at first. Always quick to get me in for an appointment in less than a week.
Highly suggest going in for an appointment as early as possible to get one of the first time slots of the day. Any MRI place can get backed up later in the day if people can't sit still and have to redo scans. Not the business's fault. In regard to up front payment, they're transparent from the get-go about asking for this, and if it's a problem for you, there are other MRI centers. Seriously.
There's nothing shady when they tell you from day 1 they're going to ask for payment. They've got the best rates of any MRI center in town, and to keep it low, they have to make sure they get paid. Plus, they're happy to set up a payment plan to pay over time.

I had an excellent experience here. My orthopedist was able to schedule a same-day appointment (on a Friday, no less) within about an hour's notice. The office staff at Longwood MRI handled the insurance authorization seamlessly, and--perhaps most important--in no time at all, without which I would not have been able to get in the same day. The scan itself was fast and straightforward, the tech was helpful, and the images were available immediately both through an online portal and on a CD that was given to me before I left.
The report was available within 24 hours, as promised. And probably most important to me, when I had a question concerning the diagnosis, I e-mailed them and Dr. Schwartz uploaded an additional report with an addendum directly addressing my question within 24 hours of the e-mail. Very pleased, I would definitely come here again.

Making sure I write this review because people hardly report on good news. I went to Longwood MRI today to have a MR Arthrogram (fluid injected into joint + MRI) and the employees I encountered were wonderful. I don't remember all their names but one lady had been there for 15 years, sat me down and walked me through the process I was about to go through.
Throughout the process she vocalized what the next step would be, how long it would take, pain level, and recognized when I was fearful and distracted me with thoughtful questions. Medical procedures can be terrifying, and I really appreciate when those in charge communicate all the steps before and as they are doing them. So thank you to that kind woman!
I then had the MRI and the man conducting this was also very thoughtful knowing it was my first time. Throughout it he kept giving me words of encouragement through my headphones (keep up the good work!). Thank you Longwood MRI!

Danielle is amazing, she runs the office. I have been in other medical offices before so I know how things can go, and she is incredibly personable and efficient. The doctor was incredibly accommodating, and the ability to get my MRI done so effectively will definitely effect the next steps in my treatment.

I left this office after 1.5 hours there, and no imaging was done. I was sent there by a physician for an ordered MRI. At first, they pushed me to pay in full in cash ($640). I do have insurance and have never had to do that. I pushed back, and they finally called my insurance company. The receptionist felt that they need to change my diagnosis to get it authorized (is that legal?).
To do so, I would need an X Ray as well. Well, this imaging facility had no idea when their X Ray Technician was coming in. So, they couldn't do the X Ray (they are an imaging specialist.hmmmm). They told me that they might be able to do the MRI if I got the X Ray somewhere else. I called my referring Doctor to see if they could get me an X Ray. They could, but then the receptionist left for a Vape break.
When she came back, she said that it would be another 40 minutes at least - which would mean that I would miss my new, other X Ray appointment. Overall, it was a shady (who changes diagnoses?) and disastrous experience. I would highly recommend to avoid this place.

Longwood MRI has the best staff! Both Jasmine and Danielle went above and beyond to help me. I currently had two MRIs and x-rays and they took the time to speak with the insurance companies about my case. They are friendly, classy and kind. I also had a great experience with two different technicians who did my MRI. Both very professional. Best place to get an MRI.

I'm sure the MRI will he find but I've been waiting over an hour and a half to get it. The people behind the desk didn't understand how my insurance worked so we had to have an almost 30 minute phone call with them. Because of this I have to rebook my travel to NY for tonight. Ridiculous and unprofessional how slow they are.

Quick access and scheduling, good quality scan, transparent and reasonable pricing (I'm in a high-deductible health plan)-had my scan in April 2019. Completed scan within 45 minutes of my appointment start and gave me a copy of CD with images at discharge-and formal radiology reading to me within 24 hours. I would recommend for routine scanning. Two caveats: the quoted price, though low, was higher than the negotiated rate from my insurer so I had to call for the difference to be refunded. (Longwood MRI should have flagged this and not waited for me to call them.) Also the receptionist that day could be more professional.

Radiologist great. Desk staff not so much ( Danielle on phone was terrific ). Desk person was rude, abrupt, just didnt care ( it's just a job, that was clear). Doesn't treat patient as a customer but as as annoyance. Better to have Danielle or someone else answer phone and deal with insurance, pre-authorization and other issues. They are also poor compared to other offices with submitting claims and dealing with insurance issues- no patience and, again- no real concern. If this staffing problem could be solved the place would be great to go to.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Do not go here. They are very disrespectful and rude. They do not trust their patients to pay so they charge you unreasonable amounts and ask you to pay up front. They will will try and refuse you service if you do not pay which is not allowed. They claim they will refund you if all the money was not needed. Your insurance company will tell you that you do not have to pay all of the money up front because it is not required.
Several people have had very long fights with them and insurance companies as well. When asked if they would refuse service if the amount was not paid, they, eventually, said no and you could pay a cheaper amount. This was only mentioned after hours of arguing and disrespect. They will not mention that it is not required for you to pay the full amount up front.
They will try and tell you that you have to pay and only mention you have to pay a smaller amount after long arguments. I ended up getting a parking ticket as well due to the hours of arguing between the doctors office, insurance companies, and front desk. They were very rude and the receptionists would talk about me and others who did not see this as fair while we were standing right there.
They would find it amazing that we thought this was unethical. I ended up leaving after horrible service. It was a complete waste of time. They will try to scam you. Do not go here.

Let me start by saying that the Staff in the MRI room are great and they is the only reason this review is two stars. Otherwise it would be negative if possible. The reception/front desk staff are anther story. My orthopedic doctor sent me here for an MRI. The front desk staff are very abrupt and rude. They are not nice at all. They don't explain anything.
Instead they just bark orders at you and demand payment. If you need an MRI please choose somewhere else. I wish I had used the MGH MRI facility in Chelsea where I had gone in the past. I was early for my appt and they kept me waiting 30 minutes. They even took someone who came in after me first. Avoid this provider until they hire front desk staff that are at least cordial.

I recently (7/1/2015) had an MRI done at Longwood MRI in Brookline. I had to pay up front which is fine, but, I asked if they were going to submit the claim to BCBS and I was told yes before I left. As of today, this claim that I was told was going to be submitted wasn't. On 7/1/2015 I had an appointment with an Orthopedic Dr. that referred me to them (this isn't my first time here) but, with new insurance that doesn't have a co-pay until it is submitted is difficult to just cough up a bunch of money and then plead for a refund (if any) from the payee.
I called today (7/8/2015) and was told it hasn't been submitted yet and I really don't see why it takes so long to submit when everything is done electronically. There is obviously no reason with sliding my credit card and receiving $638. I have never had an issue with Longwood before, but, I do think if I need anymore scans I would rather wait in line at BIDMC and not wait for or have to call to see if my claim is submitted.
This is very frustrating! I had no problems with the staff, i'm just appalled as to how long it takes to submit a claim, something needs to be done about the time between the patient leaving from a scan and the time it take to submit claims to the insurance company. My star rating is not about staff, just the amount of time it takes for the electronic paper work to be done.

Edit: I have since removed a second star because they also over billed me and I doubt I would have received a refund had I not been so vigilant and called them once I realized their error. Longwood MRI is an independent MRI location and doesn't have multiple offices like Shields or some of the other franchise type locations. This means the rates for their testing are much more competitive than going to Shields or the hospitals.
They have pictures of many pro athletes on the walls who have (presumably) had scans done there, and they take more images than their competitors (this is a good thing). They were able to get me an appointment same day when I called. The office provides a CD with your images on it when you finish the scan, and you can bring it with you to your doctor's when you have the follow-up (they charge for extra copies so don't lose it).
I took off a star because they were about 40 minutes behind schedule, and the girl working at the desk was on her personal phone the entire time I was waiting (both before the scan and after when waiting for the CD). Although she was fine when I was speaking 1 on 1, she was loud and somewhat obnoxious to listen to in the waiting area.

This is my first review, and it won't be my last, but I felt compelled to write a review of this MRI center. Longwood MRI is an incredible experience (note, if the words incredible and MRI are in the same sentence. you're on the right track). I have gotten one other MRI before so I had negative expectations about the experience. Longwood MRI was affordable, efficient, and most importantly they cared about the care I received.
The staff are kind and helpful - the doctor who reads the scan is available if you have any questions about your scan after you get it done. I wasn't surprised to learn that Longwood MRI is a family business. The way they treat their patients is unlike most medical facilities around today: they still do it family-style, with only one center run by a husband and wife. Actually managed to pay 1/10 of the price I would have paid anywhere else without compromising quality.

I had an MRA done at Longwood MRI today - an MRI with a lot of injections in my hip. I'm needle phobic (having had a number of traumatic nerve injections), and find the prospect of getting any sort of injection unnerving. Ashley was super helpful and supportive, and the front desk staff were helpful and cheerful. Dr. Schwartz was extremely competent and put me at ease.
I have had a few MRIs at hospitals in the area, and have had a great deal of painful injections - this was by far the best experience I've had with either. The injections were minimally painful and the whole process was a breeze. If you need an MRI, I would recommend this place above all others.
