Waste of time. You have to call atleast 20 or more times to speak to someone from the front desk.

Don't expect your appointment to be on time. At least an hour later. Same for pharmacy and labs you need to wait 1-3 hours after check-in. You need to beg them to help you even if you feel really bad they said STAY HYDRATED

Well, I am not really happy to write not a very positive review, but I can't keep it just for myself. Yes, people are nice, but the nurse that was trying to take care of me was a little bit different. I didn't even have an appointment with a doctor, it was only her. She is not very competent at all! She asked me the only one question about my feelings, if I felt isolated.

And I said "yes, sometimes." And when our conversation was over, she said "you need antidepressants." Seriously?! I don't. I am a holistic practitioner and have a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine. I came with some objective symptoms. She is not a psychiatrist to give me such an insulting advice! I asked if it is possible to have any more tests, she said "no." If you have an option, then this clinic is not a good choice at all!

My aunt recommended this place because she said it was gud place. So I took my mom here n even myself as well. I just wanna say this place is um nice. It's a free health clinic and is here because its privately funded n even takes donations. While not my primary care its certainly gud to have this place as backup and can help many families with low income who can't afford expensive doctor visits and medications from regular clinics who don't insurance.

Yes like many free clinics u will wait from 1hr-4hrs depending on what u are there so be prepared and have patience which unfortunately is true like many others but is less crowded. Though the only bad thing about this place is u can't go without an appointment and usually won't be able to get an appointment that day because its most likely booked or even a few days, if u are lucky within the week which is kinda bad but like I said if u need immediate help seek elsewhere.

The place is always cleans which is great n the front desk is helpful though I wish they would answer calls, they never do but they will call u back if u leave message which I guess is better than not answering. I just wish they had better time management. Other than that this place is decent.

Great place, awesome staff and doctors, nurses and students all of them doing an amazing job.

This is one of the worse Clinic ever, HORRIBLE staffs, what the ladys in the front desk have done too my mother, BEST BELIEVE they will hear from me personally and the person in charge!

I notice a lot of the bad reviews are from several years ago or more. Perhaps things have changed. I deeply appreciate this clinic. I have been without health insurance or income for over a year. Part of being able to work and function in society again involved getting meical help which, without income and insurance, is extraordinarily expensive. I joined this clinic quite easily with my Tax Return this year and have been able to make fun usage of the Lab, an excellent and forward-thinking GP, and a corresponding (free) appointment for a specialied treatment at nearby St Mary's hospital.

This clinic is outstanding and I am grateful. In terms of cordiality and communication - I have not had any experiences with the staff that I would call rude. They are very professional. Occasionally in the waiting room, someone is playing a loud video ame or sound on their phone, despite the clear bilingual signs indicating that is not allowed in the space. That's about as "bad" as it gets, which is not too bad.

The only communication difficulty I've had is occasional long waits for a call back after i leave a message, or confusion about how long I have to wait to be called to the lab - sometimes waits to get into the lab for blood work can be hours long, even if an appointment has been made. But none of this is really so bad. They get the work done, are professional and effective, and it's all free. That is amazing and wonderful. I'm very grateful this place exists.

Dangerous to your health! Was told repeatedly that a staffer would call to set up a follow up appointment to adjust medications. When I called again several weeks after getting no answers and no calls from them, they told me all appointments with the specialist are booked for the entire month, despite them knowing previously that I was running out of a medication it is dangerous to come off of cold turkey and could put a person in the hospital.

Have repeatedly lost various forms of documentation that I've submitted, even after confirming they had it on file. Won't give you treatment without that paperwork but won't acknowledge they lost it either, even if you have evidence of the original email or fax. Since you don't see a single practitioner, quality of care varies every time. Doctors don't leave good enough notes for one another, so you have to explain the reasons behind various medications or diagnosis over and over again. Doctors write prescriptions for wrong dosages, both too high or low, which could kill someone.

Sometimes doctors forget to enter your prescription entirely and you wait in the waiting room for the pharmacy for medication that never happens. Also requested to be put on the dental wait list, which I told has a 12-18 month wait - 32 months later no one has contacted me and no one can explain why. They aren't familiar with most other city resources and don't know how or where to get you help that isn't available on site or at Cook Co. at all.

Not familiar with appropriate guidelines for care of LGBTQ patients. Staff can be rude, and definitely are too busy to care about fixing their mistakes. Try Howard Brown, Erie Family, Chicago Women's Health, etc. for better options where you feel like a human and are taken seriously. Also, shame on other reviewers who think those who are low income shouldn't complain when they get dangerously bad healthcare. Poor people don't deserve to die due to negligence just because they don't have the money for private care.

Interesting how people getting FREE Healthcare complain about this FREE private clinic. I had caring physicians and nurses for over 4 years so I would say complainers are crybabies. Did we mention how this is a FREE clinic? A FREE P R I V A T E clinic so you have actual appointments and don't wait for 9 hrs @Stroger hospital. You also get the same doctor every time you go. (Hello?) I loved this place and got a FREE dental appt and FREE hearing appt when I was broke.

As other reviewers mentioned, it's free, so you get what you pay for. In turn, doctors that volunteer their time do not give a shit, and there's really nothing you can do about it. Two of the four times that I have visited this clinic with scheduled appointments, the doctors never showed up. I waited the entirety of both appointments in the waiting room only to be told that so-and-so couldn't make it.

The other two times, they did honor my appointments. I have been dealing with thyroid problems for the last 4-5 years. I do my own research and educate myself on my diseases, which has helped me turn my life completely around. General physicians, I have come to learn, are not well versed on the topic of thyroid disease. They are taught to prescribe a pill and voila! the patient is fine. Um, no.

Even if labs come out normal, and I still feel like shit, doctors will try to convince me that I am a hypochondriac. The point of visiting a doctor is to combine their knowledge of medicine with your knowledge of your own body. I fought with every doctor I encountered here. It came to the point where I would just go to collect my script and then GTFO.

As protocol, thyroid patients are to get blood drawn to check hormone levels every 3 months. So during each of the appointments I came to here at CH, I would report to the lab technician after my visit. One tech, who was obviously a noob, strapped me into my seat. Mind you, I fucking hate needles, even after doing a million blood draws. I turned my head away, closed my eyes, and this dingbat jabs the needle in my arm and starts fiddling it around!

He couldn't find my vein; I was probably dehydrated from fasting. So he's just twisting and turning this thing, which takes my nervousness go from a 5 to a fucking 15. Last thing I remember, I felt my body temp rising, I got sweaty, and then I just passed out in my chair. Not sure how long I was out for, but nurses were surrounding me when I regained consciousness and asked me if I was diabetic and a bunch of other stupid questions and handed me a bottle of apple juice. That's the last time I stepped foot in this clinic. It's a shit-show.

They are free. You get what you pay for. Told me i needed xrays from cook county hosp. Xrays take six months to read. I went without. Cant someone die win 6 months?

Community Health offers healthcare for the uninsured. They are personable and very helpful setting up and following through appointments. Been grateful to be able to go here for a few months and the service and care is incredible.

I'm a volunteer. Wonderful clinic doing genuine service for those without insurance, Thanks to all the doctors, nurses, volunteers, and the administration. Patients- this is that place where you can get great care even without insurance.

This place wasn't so bad. I had an awesome female doctor do my first pap smear. I went back for my results to have a jerk male doctor tell me in front of an intern that I wasn't educated about stds. He even went on to laugh and say "the person you're sleeping with is sleeping around". He was VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. His diagnoses was based on skimming my results of an abnormal cell pap smear.

To add insult to injury he handed me outdated copies about stds and walked out of the room. I called the clinic later on and the exceptionally wonderful Nurse Jessica explained my results, some women just have abnormal cells. She read my results and said everything was fine and to continue having regular pap smear exams. Never have i felt so degraded by a doctor.

Nurse Jessica said the doctor was COMPLETELY WRONG. Thank God for nurses like Jessica who are compassionate and don't just enter the medical field for money. By the way this a-hole has an uncontrollable lisp and salivates onto his lower lip as he speaks. He is asian and tall so that might help u just a little in identifying him at community health clinic on chicago and rockwell. He was working there the summer of 2009. This jerk is a prime example of what the medical field is NOT about.

After reading all these great reviews I gave Community Health Clinic a call and an email today because I fear I may have strep throat. Much to my dislike my reply I got to my email said I wouldn't be able to see someone for 4-6 weeks? I'm pretty sure people shouldn't hang out with strep or whatever this is for that long. They wanted me to come in to fill out paperwork but I wouldn't be able to see anyone. Thanks for wasting my time! Being unemployed really is inconvenient, I miss going to the doctor whenever I needed!

I went here with my boyfriend. The lobby was clean. The desk service was orderly and friendly. I recommend this place if you do not have insurance. They treat you with respect and try to find ways to save you money. I am all for this clinic! oh yeah, and bike parking is available on the street.

I haven't been to many "Free" Clinics but out of the one's I've been to, this is by far the nicest. I was surprised to see how clean, organized and odor free it was. It only took an hour to register and get my next appointment, next thing next will be to follow up on the performance of the doctors. They ask for donations which is not required but even if you can give a dollar it's something right? I love that I can come here before my last option "dum dum dum duuuuum" Stroger. Eeek!

I called them today to cancel an appointment I had with them the next day and the receptionist had the audacity to ask me why I was cancelling my appointment.did it not occur to her that it's none of her business as to why I cancelled my appointment. That's highly unprofessional behavior for someone to ask a patient as to the reason they're cancelling an appointment when it's not theirs or the clinic's buisness to know why you're cancelling.

At least I had the courtesy to give them notice whereas some people don't call at all and are deemed a no-show. The customer service of this clinic sucks because if they were professional they would treat patients with a little more respect other than speaking down to them and talking to them like they're not even human beings. I would not advise anyone to deal with a clinic where the staff treat you like you're less than human.

If you're being questioned as to why you're cancelling an appointment you don't owe any explanation your reasons are your own buisness and in this clinic's case the staff seem to not have much regard for a person's privacy since the nurse who was going to be attending to me that day was very cold and rude. I want to save potential patients the crass and BS and for them to really do their homework on finding adequate health care without all the crappy attitudes and treatment. I know this I'll be finding a new doctor one who will be a proactive figure in my life and has my health care's best interest.

I am really amazed at the quality of care given at this free clinic by great doctors, volunteers, and staff. Everyone involved in providing care really wants to be there and really cares about providing just as good care as you would get from any major medical center. As a student, you will get a very thorough clinical experience. They also have specialty clinics, like psychiatry and cardiology, which run on certain days. The only downside is the patients may be here for a really long time (2+ hours).
